Abstract

A network system for accessing situation related information is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes a network connection for receiving an indication of an occurrence of a situation; a situational network formed based on the occurrence of the situation, the situational network including a plurality of participant devices determined to be geographically proximate to the situation, each of the participant devices corresponding to a participant in the situational network; a second network connection for presenting a roll call query to each of the plurality of participant devices soliciting a reply related to a status of the participant; a plurality of network connections established for receiving a status response from the participant devices; and a database for aggregating the status responses from responsive participants into a roll call list.

Claims (106)

1. A method for delivering event information via a network using a networked system, the networked system comprising: at least one networking server configured to maintain data defining a multi-dimensional information network, wherein each respective user node of the multi-dimensional information network is associated with respective user data; a plurality of user devices configured to be connected with the at least one networking server via the network, wherein each of the plurality of user devices of the plurality of user devices is associated with a respective user node; and at least one information node for storing and providing supplemental information via the network;

the method comprising:

maintaining, by the at least one networking server, a database of a plurality of user nodes and multi-dimensional node-to-node links characterizing relationships between the plurality of user nodes via dimensions in the multi-dimensional information network;

providing, by the at least one networking server, to each respective user device associated with a respective user node of the plurality of user nodes a respective composite data feed that is based on a database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links;

establishing, by at least one event node server, an event node associated with an event in a particular geographical area,

wherein the event node is discoverable to each respective user device of a first subset of the plurality of user devices by browsing the respective composite data feed;

joining at least the first subset of the plurality of user devices that have discovered the event node to the event node, wherein user devices associated with a first subset of user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network are joined to a centralized architecture for the event node;

wherein the event node is configured as a central node in the centralized architecture for accessing information associated with the event from at least one location in the multi-dimensional information network;

creating, by the at least one networking server, based on the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, a projection of the plurality of user nodes wherein the projection of the plurality of user nodes represents a second subset of user devices, wherein the second subset of user devices is selected based on respective distances of devices of the second subset of user devices from the event;

transmitting, by the at least one networking server, respective requests to connect to the event node to the second subset of user devices, wherein each respective request to connect is in a form of a roll call;

recording respective responses to the respective requests to connect to the event node;

making a subset of the respective responses viewable, via the event node, to a first device, associated with a first node, that is connected to the event node, wherein:

each response of the subset was received from a device associated with a node having a single degree of separation from the first node in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links; and

analyzing (a) the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, and (b) data of user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network that are joined to the centralized architecture for the event node to:

identify at least one second node included in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links that is: (a) not connected to the event node, and (b) connected via at least one dimension to at least one user node of the multi-dimensional information network that is joined to the centralized architecture for the event node; and

delivering information to the at least one second node, wherein the information was received from the at least one information node.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein user devices connected to the event node are enabled to communicate via a message board available by way of the event node.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the at least one second node comprises identifying nodes associated with user data that indicate an association with the particular geographical area of the event.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising updating user data associated with user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network that are joined to the centralized architecture for the event node based on joining the centralized architecture for the event node.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising delivering additional information from the at least one information node to at least one device based on the updated user data.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the projection represents the second subset of user devices determined to be geographically proximate to the event.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein a particular user device is determined to be geographically proximate to the event based on the user device and the event occurring in the same town.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein a particular user device is determined to be geographically proximate to the event based on GPS data of the particular user device.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the single degree of separation is indicative of a friend relationship.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the single degree of separation is indicative of a family relationship.

11. An apparatus for delivering event information via a network using a networked system, the networked system comprising: at least one networking server configured to maintain data defining a multi-dimensional information network, wherein each respective user node of multi-dimensional information network is associated with respective user data; a plurality of user devices configured to be connected with the at least one networking server via the network, wherein each of the plurality of user devices of the plurality of user devices is associated with a respective user node; and at least one information node for storing and providing supplemental information via the network;

the at least one networking server comprising:

memory configured to maintain a database of a plurality of user nodes and multi-dimensional node-to-node links characterizing relationships between the plurality of user nodes via dimensions in the multi-dimensional information network;

one or more network controllers configured to:

provide to each respective user device associated with a respective user node of the plurality of user nodes a respective composite data feed that is based on a database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links;

one or more central processing units, coupled to the one or more network controllers, configured to:

establish an event node associated with an event in a particular geographical area,

wherein the event node is discoverable to each respective user device of at least a first subset of the plurality of user devices by browsing the respective composite data feed;

join at least the first subset of the plurality of user devices that have discovered the event node to the event node, wherein user devices associated with a first subset of user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network are joined to a centralized architecture for the event node;

wherein the event node is configured as a central node in the centralized architecture for accessing information associated with the event from at least one location in the multi-dimensional information network;

create, based on the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, a projection of the plurality of user nodes wherein the projection of the plurality of user nodes represents a second subset of user devices, wherein the second subset of user devices is selected based on respective distances of devices of the second subset of user devices from the event;

wherein the one or more network controllers are further configured to:

transmit respective requests to connect to the event node to the second subset of user devices, wherein each respective request to connect is in a form of a roll call;

wherein the one or more central processing units are further configured to:

record respective responses to the respective requests to connect to the event node;

make a subset of the respective responses viewable, via the event node, to a first device, associated with a first node, that is connected to the event node, wherein:

each response of the subset was received from a device associated with a node having a single degree of separation from the first node in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links; and

analyze (a) the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, and (b) data of user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network that are joined to the centralized architecture for the event node to:

identify at least one second node included in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links that is: (a) not connected to the event node, and (b) connected via at least one dimension to at least one user node of the multi-dimensional information network that is joined to the centralized architecture for the event node; and

wherein the one or more network controllers are further configured to:

deliver the information to the at least one second node, wherein the information was received from the at least one information node.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein user devices connected to the event node are enabled to communicate via a message board available by way of the event node.

13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the one or more central processing units are configured to identify the at least one second node by identifying nodes associated with user data that indicate an association with the particular geographical area of the event.

The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the one or more central processing units are further configured to update user data associated with user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network that are joined to the centralized architecture for the event node based on joining the centralized architecture for the event node.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the one or more network controllers are further configured to deliver additional information from the at least one information node to at least one device based on the updated user data.

16. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the projection represents the second subset of user devices determined to be geographically proximate to the event.

17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the one or more central processing units are further configured to determine that a particular user device is geographically proximate to the event based on the user device and the event occurring in the same town.

18. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the one or more central processing units are further configured to determine that a particular user device is geographically proximate to the event based on GPS data of the particular user device.

19. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the single degree of separation is indicative of a friend relationship.

20. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the single degree of separation is indicative of a family relationship.

21. A method for delivering event information via a network using a networked system, the networked system comprising: at least one networking server configured to maintain data defining a multi-dimensional information network, wherein each respective user node of the multi-dimensional information network is associated with a respective user data; a plurality of user devices configured to be connected with the at least one networking server via the network, wherein each of the plurality of user devices of the plurality of user devices is associated with a respective user node; and at least one information node for storing and providing event information via the network;

the method comprising:

maintaining, by the at least one networking server, a database of a plurality of user nodes and multi-dimensional node-to-node links characterizing relationships between the plurality of user nodes via dimensions in the multi-dimensional information network;

providing, by the at least one networking server, to each respective user device associated with a respective user node of the plurality of user nodes a respective composite data feed that is based on a database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links;

establishing, by at least one event node server, an event node associated with an event in a particular geographical area,

wherein the event node is discoverable to each respective user device of at least a first subset of the plurality of user devices by browsing the respective composite data feed;

joining at least the first subset of the plurality of user devices that have discovered the event node to the event node, wherein user devices associated with a first subset of user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network are joined to a centralized architecture for the event node;

wherein the event node is configured as a central node in the centralized architecture for accessing information associated with the event from at least one location in the multi-dimensional information network;

creating, by the at least one networking server, based on the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, a projection of the plurality of user nodes wherein the projection of the plurality of user nodes represents a second subset of user devices, wherein the second subset of user devices is selected based on respective distances of devices of the second subset of user devices from the event;

transmitting, by the at least one networking server, respective requests to connect to the event node to the second subset of user devices, wherein each respective request to connect is in a form of a roll call;

recording respective interactions to connect to the event node that were based on the respective requests;

making a subset of the respective interactions viewable, via the event node, to a first device, associated with a first node, that is connected to the event node, wherein:

each interaction of the subset was received from a device associated with a node having a single degree of separation from the first node in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links; and

analyzing the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links to:

identify at least one second node included in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, based at on a user data associated with the at least one second node, wherein the at least one second node is: (a) is associated with a respective user device that has not transmitted an interaction to connect to the event node, and (b) connected via at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node; and

delivering event information relevant to the event to the at least one second node, wherein the event information was received from the at least one information node.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein user devices connected to the event node are enabled to communicate via a message board available by way of the event node.

23. The method of claim 21 , wherein identifying that the at least one second node is connected via the at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node comprises:

identifying user data associated with the at least one second node indicating an interest in at least one particular topic relevant to the event.

24. The method of claim 21 , wherein identifying that the at least one second node is connected via the at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node comprises:

identifying a user data associated with the at least one second node indicating participation in at least one particular activity relevant to the event.

25. The method of claim 21 , wherein identifying that the at least one second node is connected via the at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node comprises:

identifying a user data associated with the at least one second node indicating participation travel history to a particular region relevant to the event.

26. An apparatus for delivering event information via a network using a networked system, the networked system comprising: at least one networking server configured to maintain data defining a multi-dimensional information network, wherein each respective user node of the multi-dimensional information network is associated with a respective user data; a plurality of user devices configured to be connected with the at least one networking server via the network, wherein each of the plurality of user devices of the plurality of user devices is associated with a respective user node; and at least one information node for storing and providing the event information via the network;

the at least one networking server comprising:

memory configured to maintain a database of a plurality of user nodes and multi-dimensional node-to-node links characterizing relationships between the plurality of user nodes via dimensions in the multi-dimensional information network;

one or more network controllers configured to:

provide to each respective user device associated with a respective user node of the plurality of user nodes a respective composite data feed that is based on a database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links;

one or more central processing units, coupled to the one or more network controllers, configured to:

establish an event node associated with an event in a particular geographical area,

wherein the event node is discoverable to each respective user device of at least a first subset of the plurality of user devices by browsing the respective composite data feed;

join at least the first subset of the plurality of user devices that have discovered the event node to the event node, wherein user devices associated with a first subset of user nodes of the multi-dimensional information network are joined to a centralized architecture for the event node;

wherein the event node is configured as a central node in the centralized architecture for accessing information associated with the event from at least one location in the multi-dimensional information network;

create, based on the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, a projection of the plurality of user nodes wherein the projection of the plurality of user nodes represents a second subset of user devices, wherein the second subset of user devices is selected based on respective distances of devices of the second subset of user devices from the event;

where in the one or more network controllers are further configured to:

transmit, by the at least one networking server, respective requests to connect to the event node to the second subset of user devices, wherein each respective request to connect is in a form of a roll call;

wherein the one or more central processing units are configured to:

record respective interactions to connect to the event node that were based on the respective requests;

make a subset of the respective interactions viewable, via the event node, to a first device, associated with a first node, that is connected to the event node, wherein:

each interaction of the subset was received from a device associated with a node having a single degree of separation from the first node in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links; and

analyzing the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links to:

identify at least one second node included in the database of multi-dimensional node-to-node links, based at on a user data associated with the at least one second node, wherein the at least one second node is: (a) is associated with a respective user device that has not transmitted an interaction to connect to the event node, and (b) connected via at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node; and

where in the one or more network controllers are further configured to:

delivering event information relevant to the event to the at least one second node, wherein the event information was received from the at least one information node.

27. The apparatus of claim 26 , wherein user devices connected to the event node are enabled to communicate via a message board available on the event node.

28. The apparatus of claim 26 , wherein the one or more central processing units are configured to identify that the at least one second node is connected via the at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node by:

identifying user data associated with the at least one second node indicating an interest in at least one particular topic relevant to the event.

29. The apparatus of claim 26 , wherein the one or more central processing units are configured to identify that the at least one second node is connected via the at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node by:

identifying a user data associated with the at least one second node indicating participation in at least one particular activity relevant to the event.

30. The apparatus of claim 26 , wherein the one or more central processing units are configured to identify that the at least one second node is connected via the at least one dimension of the multi-dimensional information network to the event node by:

identifying a user data associated with the at least one second node indicating participation travel history to a particular region relevant to the event.
