Abstract

In one embodiment, a defibrillation assembly energizable through case opening is provided. The defibrillation assembly includes an electromechanical component; an energy storage element that supplies power to the electromechanical component; circuitry configured to generate a defibrillation waveform, wherein the circuitry is isolated from the energy storage element by the electromechanical component; a housing within which the circuitry is located; and a case within which at least a portion of the housing is located, wherein an opening of the case causes the power to flow to the circuitry through the electro-mechanical component.

Claims (17)

1. A defibrillation assembly energizable through case opening, comprising:

a defibrillator, comprising:

an electromechanical component;

an energy storage element that supplies power to an entirety of circuitry of the defibrillator via the electromechanical component;

the entirety of the circuitry of the defibrillator, at least a portion of the circuitry configured to generate a defibrillation waveform, wherein the entirety of the circuitry is isolated from the energy storage element by the electromechanical component and wherein the entirety of the circuitry is electrically unbiased when the power is not flowing from the energy storage element to the entirety of the circuitry through the electromechanical component; and

a case within which at least a portion of the circuitry is located, wherein an opening of the case causes the power to flow to the entirety of the circuitry through the electro-mechanical component.

2. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 1 , wherein the electromechanical component comprises a switch that is in an open position when the circuitry is not in use.

3. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 2 , wherein the switch comprises a magnetically triggered reed switch.

4. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 3 , further comprising:

a de-energizing component that is one of positioned on and embedded in a portion of the case removable during the opening, wherein the de-energizing component comprises a magnet that keeps the magnetically triggered reed switch in the open position when in an original position before the opening and wherein a removal of the portion of the case from the original position during the opening transitions the magnetically triggered reed switch into a closed position.

5. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 4 , wherein the removable portion comprises a lid of the case.

6. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 4 , wherein a closing of the case via a return of the removable portion into the original position returns the magnetic reed switch into the open position.

7. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 6 , wherein the circuitry comprises a microcontroller unit configured to determine whether the opening of the case was accidental and to power down the circuitry upon making the determination the opening of the case was accidental.

8. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 7 , wherein the microcontroller unit makes the determination based on a time during which the microcontroller receives the power through the electromechanical component.

9. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 8 , wherein the microcontroller unit is configured to compare the time to a threshold and to make the determination based on the comparison.

10. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 7 , wherein the microcontroller unit is configured to run a diagnostic check upon determining that the opening of the case was not accidental.

11. A defibrillation assembly in accordance to claim 3 , wherein the magnet is a permanent magnet and the magnet obstructs switching of the magnetically activated reed switch into a closed position by one or more further magnets encountered post-manufacture.
