Abstract

The present invention is a dermal-exfoliation system that uses positive pressure to deliver salt and/or bio-inert crystalline particle abrasives or saline solution to the stratum corneum, combined with a minimal amount of negative pressure to close the loop when in contact with the skin to evacuate spent particles and dislodged skin cells and debris. An applicator handpiece is optimized for the use of the combined pressure system discussed herein for the removal of epidermal layers.

Claims (13)

1. A system for treating skin and areas proximate thereto, comprising:

a first component, wherein the first component is a first handpiece adapted for treatment of skin using a skin exfoliating abrasive; and

a second component, wherein the second component is a second handpiece having an ultrasonic transducer, and wherein the second component is adapted for delivery of topical products into skin cells.

2. A system for treating skin and areas proximate thereto, consisting of:

a first treatment component, wherein the first treatment component is a first handpiece adapted for treatment of skin using a skin exfoliating abrasive; and

a second treatment component, wherein the second treatment component is a second handpiece having an ultrasonic transducer, and wherein the second component is adapted for delivery of topical products into skin cells.

3. A system for treating skin and areas proximate thereto, comprising:

a first component, wherein the first component is a first handpiece adapted for treatment of skin using a skin exfoliating abrasive;

a second component, wherein the second component is a second handpiece having an ultrasonic transducer, and wherein the second component is adapted for delivery of topical products into skin cells; and

a third component, wherein the third component is positioned above and separate from the first and second components and is a lamp that emits light having a wavelength ranging from 400 nm to 2,940 nm.

4. A method for treating skin and areas proximate thereto, comprising the steps of:

first, treating skin by applying a first handpiece adapted for treatment of skin using a skin exfoliating abrasive; and

second, delivering topical products into skin cells through ultrasonic transduction by applying a second handpiece having an ultrasonic transducer.
