BACKUP NOTIFICATIONS IN A MEDICAL DEVICE SYSTEM
Techniques disclosed herein relate generally to notification generation in a medical device system. In some embodiments, the techniques involve detecting a failure to receive an acknowledgement of a first notification at a mobile device within a predetermined time frame, and delivering, to a medical device, a second notification that indicates the failure to receive the acknowledgement of the first notification at the mobile device within the predetermined time frame.
1 . A processor-implemented method comprising:
detecting a failure to receive an acknowledgement of a first notification at a mobile device within a predetermined time frame; and
delivering, to a medical device, a second notification that indicates the failure to receive the acknowledgement of the first notification at the mobile device within the predetermined time frame.
2 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first notification indicates that the mobile device is not functioning properly.
3 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
generating the first notification via a medical application executing on the mobile device.
4 . The processor-implemented method of claim 3 , further comprising:
determining that the failure to receive the acknowledgement is caused by a failure to issue the first notification at the mobile device; and
changing at least one setting on the mobile device.
5 . The processor-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein changing the at least one setting comprises:
determining if the medical application has access to one or more user interface resources of the mobile device; and
responsive to determining that the medical application has no access to the one or more user interface resources of the mobile device, suggesting or performing a corrective action for changing the at least one setting.
6 . The processor-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more user interface resources of the mobile device include a speaker, haptics, a camera flash, a display, a vibrator, or any combination thereof.
7 . The processor-implemented method of claim 3 , further comprising:
determining that the failure to receive the acknowledgement is caused by the medical application's failure to receive the acknowledgment of the first notification within the predetermined time frame.
8 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
setting a length of the predetermined time frame based on criticality of an event associated with the first notification.
9 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein detecting the failure to receive the acknowledgement of the first notification at the mobile device within the predetermined time frame comprises:
determining that no acknowledgment of the first notification was received before a counter has reached a threshold count.
10 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
responsive to detecting the failure to receive the acknowledgment of the first notification at the mobile device within the predetermined time frame, performing:
increasing a speaker volume of the mobile device;
overriding a silent mode of the mobile device;
activating haptics on the mobile device;
activating a camera flash on the mobile device; or
any combination thereof.
11 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first notification or the second notification comprises:
a haptic signal;
a visual signal;
an audio signal;
a warning signal; or
any combination thereof.
12 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the medical device includes an insulin delivery device or a glucose sensor arrangement.
13 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; and
one or more processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of operations comprising:
detecting a failure to receive an acknowledgment of a first notification at a mobile device within a predetermined time frame; and
delivering, to a medical device, a second notification that indicates the failure to receive the acknowledgment of the first notification at the mobile device within the predetermined time frame.
14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the first notification indicates that the mobile device is not functioning properly and is not fixed either automatically or by a user of the mobile device.
15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise:
generating the first notification via a medical application executing on the mobile device.
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
determining that the failure to receive the acknowledgment is caused by a failure to issue the first notification at the mobile device; and
changing at least one setting on the mobile device.
17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein changing the at least one setting comprises:
determining if the medical application has access to one or more user interface resources of the mobile device; and
responsive to determining that the medical application has no access to the one or more user interface resources of the mobile device, suggesting or performing a corrective action for changing the at least one setting.
18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the one or more user interface resources of the mobile device include a speaker, haptics, a camera flash, a display, a vibrator, or any combination thereof.
19 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise:
setting a length of the predetermined time frame based on criticality of an event associated with the first notification.
20 . A processor-implemented method comprising:
generating a first notification via a medical application that is executed on a mobile device;
determining that the first notification was not acknowledged within a predetermined time frame; and
causing delivery of a second notification at a medical device, wherein the second notification is different from the first notification.
