Abstract

Systems and methods for tracking the status of an anticipated dynamic event and displaying a corresponding notification icon on a media progress indicator. A media guidance application receives, from an application (e.g., Uber), a notification (e.g., “Driver Found”) during consumption of a media asset (e.g., “Fast and Furious”) and determines that an expected event without a fixed time of occurrence will happen (e.g., arrival of driver at user's location). The media guidance application determines an anticipated time of the expected event and generate a visual icon representing the expected event on the media asset's consumption progress indicator at the anticipated time relative to the consumption (e.g., 56-minute mark of the movie). As updated information (e.g., traffic, driver's route, etc.) is received, the media guidance application recalculates the anticipated time and shift the visual icon based on the new calculation.

Claims (28)

1. A method comprising:

receiving a notification comprising an identification of an expected event during consumption of a video game;

identifying an expected location on a map within the video game that is expected to be reached by a user-controlled object within the video game at a real-time anticipated time of the expected event; and

generating for display within the video game a dynamic notification for the expected event at the expected location on the map within the video game.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the expected event is an external event that originates outside of the video game.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the received notification is generated by an application distinct from the video game.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating for display a progress indicator indicating the progress of the user-controlled object overlaid over the video game.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the video game is a racing game, and wherein the progress indicator is a visual indicator of the user-controlled object's race measured in laps.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the map is a mini map displaying laps of the user-controlled object's race.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the dynamic notification for the expected event is located relative to a lap of the user-controlled object's race the user-controlled object is expected to be on when the expected event is anticipated to occur.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying the expected location on the map within the video game that is expected to be reached further comprises determining an amount of time the user-controlled object is expected to take to complete a portion of the video game.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the portion of the video game is one of a portion of a lap in a race, the lap in the race, the race, a level, and a mission.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the amount of time the user-controlled object is expected to take to complete the portion of the video game is based on how quickly the user-controlled object typically progresses through the video game.

11. A system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

receive a notification comprising an identification of an expected event during consumption of a video game;

identify an expected location on a map within the video game that is expected to be reached by a user-controlled object within the video game at a real-time anticipated time of the expected event; and

input/output circuitry configured to:

generate for display within the video game a dynamic notification for the expected event at the expected location on the map within the video game.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the expected event is an external event that originates outside of the video game.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the received notification is generated by an application distinct from the video game.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the input/output circuitry is further configured to generate for display a progress indicator indicating the progress of the user-controlled object overlaid over the video game.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the video game is a racing game, and wherein the progress indicator is a visual indicator of the user-controlled object's race measured in laps.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the map is a mini map displaying laps of the user-controlled object's race.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the dynamic notification for the expected event is located relative to a lap of the user-controlled object's race the user-controlled object is expected to be on when the expected event is anticipated to occur.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to identify the expected location on the map within the video game that is expected to be reached by determining an amount of time the user-controlled object is expected to take to complete a portion of the video game.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the portion of the video game is one of a portion of a lap in a race, the lap in the race, the race, a level, and a mission.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the amount of time the user-controlled object is expected to take to complete the portion of the video game is based on how quickly the user-controlled object typically progresses through the video game.
