Abstract

A covering for a prosthetic valve comprises a first portion configured to couple to an outflow side of a prosthetic valve and a second portion configured to couple to an inflow side of the prosthetic valve. The first portion is annular in shape and has a first edge alternating between one or more first tips and one or more first valleys. The second portion is also annular in shape and has a second edge alternating between one or more second tips and one or more second valleys. The one or more second tips are configured to couple to the one or more first tips to at least partially cover posts of the prosthetic valve. The one or more second tips have a tapered form.

Claims (27)

1 . A covering for a prosthetic valve, the covering comprising:

a first portion configured to couple to an outflow side of a prosthetic valve, the first portion being annular in shape and having a first edge alternating between one or more first tips and one or more first valleys; and

a second portion configured to couple to an inflow side of the prosthetic valve, the second portion being annular in shape and having a second edge alternating between one or more second tips and one or more second valleys, wherein the one or more second tips are configured to couple to the one or more first tips to at least partially cover posts of the prosthetic valve, and wherein the one or more second tips have a tapered form.

The covering of claim 1 , wherein the one or more first tips and the one or more second tips are configured to be secured together by at least one of a swaging, a snap fit, a click fit, one or more staples, tape, adhesives, one or more screws, one or more rivets, insert molding, or overmolding.

3 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the one or more second tips form free ends, and wherein the one or more second tips increase in width towards the free ends.

4 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the first portion comprises three first tips.

5 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the first portion and the second portion are configured to be secured together about a frame of the prosthetic valve.

6 . The covering of claim 5 , wherein the first portion and the second portion are configured to interface between a sewing cuff and the frame of the prosthetic valve.

7 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the one or more first tips are atraumatic.

8 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the one or more first tips include first interfaces and the one or more second tips include second interfaces, the first and second interfaces being configured to join the first and second portions together.

9 . The covering of claim 8 , wherein the first interfaces and the second interfaces are operable to snap together to join the first portion to the second portion.

10 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the first portion includes a fillet operable to limit tissue ingrowth beyond the fillet.

11 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the first portion includes a flange element projecting at least partially radially outward.

12 . The covering of claim 11 , wherein the flange element extends between tips of the first portion.

13 . The covering of claim 1 , wherein the first portion is formed of a more flexible material relative to a material of the second portion.

14 . A prosthetic valve comprising:

a frame;

one or more leaflets attached to the frame; and

a covering comprising:

a first portion configured to couple to an outflow side of the prosthetic valve, the first portion being annular in shape and having a first edge alternating between one or more first tips and one or more first valleys; and

a second portion configured to couple to an inflow side of the prosthetic valve, the second portion being annular in shape and having a second edge alternating between one or more second tips and one or more second valleys, wherein the one or more second tips are configured to couple to the one or more first tips to at least partially cover posts of the prosthetic valve, and wherein the one or more second tips have a tapered form.

The prosthetic valve of claim 14 , wherein the one or more first tips and the one or more second tips are configured to be secured together by at least one of a swaging, a snap fit, a click fit, one or more staples, tape, adhesives, one or more screws, one or more rivets, insert molding, or overmolding.

16 . The prosthetic valve of claim 14 , wherein the one or more second tips form free ends, and wherein the one or more second tips increase in width towards the free ends.

17 . The prosthetic valve of claim 14 , wherein the first portion comprises three first tips.

18 . The prosthetic valve of claim 14 , wherein the first portion and the second portion are configured to be secured together about the frame of the prosthetic valve.

19 . The prosthetic valve of claim 18 , wherein the first portion and the second portion are configured to interface between a sewing cuff and the frame of the prosthetic valve.

20 . The prosthetic valve of claim 14 , wherein the one or more first tips are atraumatic.
