Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to gaming devices that provide audio-visual animated characters in response to game play. The character has a personality that may be encouraging, taunting or another quality. A plurality of expressions of the personality is presented, between one extreme and another, dependent upon the history of game outcomes.

Claims (40)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, at an electronic gaming machine, one or more wagers associated with a game on the electronic gaming machine;

determining, based on the one or more wagers, one or more game outcomes associated with the game;

determining, based on the one or more game outcomes, one or more character expressions; and

adjusting, based on the one or more game outcomes, the one or more character expressions.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more character expressions comprise a supportive expression, a taunting expression, a nagging expression, or a suggestive expression.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the one or more character expressions comprises:

determining, based on the one or more game outcomes, a history of outcomes comprising one or more of a winning streak or a losing streak; and

associating, the history of outcomes with the one or more character expressions.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising outputting one or more characters.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising causing the one or more characters to speak in a tone comprising one or more of: supportive voice, a taunting voice, a nagging voice, or a suggestive voice.

6 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising causing the one or more characters to change at least one of a tone of voice or volume based on an occurrence of at least one recent game outcome.

7 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising receiving a user input configured to cause the one or more characters to change personalities.

8 . One or more non-transitory computer readable media storing processor executable instructions thereon, that when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:

receive, at an electronic gaming machine, one or more wagers associated with a game on the electronic gaming machine;

determine, based on the one or more wagers, one or more game outcomes associated with the game;

determine, based on the one or more game outcomes, one or more character expressions; and

adjust, based on the one or more game outcomes, the one or more character expressions.

9 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 8 , wherein the one or more character expressions comprise a supportive expression, a taunting expression, a nagging expression, or a suggestive expression.

10 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 8 , wherein the processor executable instructions, that when executed by the processor cause the processor to determine the one or more character expressions, further cause the processor to:

determine, based on the one or more game outcomes, a history of outcomes comprising one or more of a winning streak or a losing streak; and

associate, the history of outcomes with the one or more character expressions.

11 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 8 , wherein the processor executable instructions, when executed by the processor further cause the processor to output one or more characters.

12 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 11 , wherein the processor executable instructions, when executed by the processor further cause the processor to cause the one or more characters to speak in a tone comprising one or more of: supportive voice, a taunting voice, a nagging voice, or a suggestive voice.

13 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 11 , wherein the processor executable instructions, when executed by the processor further cause the processor to cause the one or more characters to change at least one of a tone of voice or volume based on an occurrence of at least one recent game outcome.

14 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of claim 11 , wherein the processor executable instructions, when executed by the processor further cause the processor to receive a user input configured to cause the one or more characters to change personalities.

15 . An electronic gaming machine apparatus comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing processor executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the electronic gaming machine apparatus to:

receive, at an electronic gaming machine, one or more wagers associated with a game on the electronic gaming machine;

determine, based on the one or more wagers, one or more game outcomes associated with the game;

determine, based on the one or more game outcomes, one or more character expressions; and

adjust, based on the one or more game outcomes, the one or more character expressions.

16 . The electronic gaming machine apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the one or more character expressions comprise a supportive expression, a taunting expression, a nagging expression, or a suggestive expression.

17 . The electronic gaming machine apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the processor executable instructions, that when executed by the one or more processors cause the electronic gaming machine apparatus to determine the one or more character expressions, further cause the electronic gaming machine apparatus to:

determine, based on the one or more game outcomes, a history of outcomes comprising one or more of a winning streak or a losing streak; and

associate, the history of outcomes with the one or more character expressions.

18 . The electronic gaming machine apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the processor executable instructions, when executed by the one or more processors further cause the electronic gaming machine apparatus to output one or more characters.

19 . The electronic gaming machine apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the processor executable instructions, when executed by the one or more processors further cause the electronic gaming machine apparatus to cause the one or more characters to speak in a tone comprising one or more of: supportive voice, a taunting voice, a nagging voice, or a suggestive voice.

20 . The electronic gaming machine apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the processor executable instructions, when executed by the one or more processors further cause the electronic gaming machine apparatus to cause the one or more characters to change at least one of a tone of voice or volume based on an occurrence of at least one recent game outcome.
