Abstract

Systems and methods for matching media items of a first type to media items of a second type are provided. A data store comprising first media items of a first type is accessed. A first media item of the first media items is associated with a first media item characteristic. A second media item of a second type is identified. The second media item includes a second media item characteristic. A matching first media item of the first media items that matches the second media item is determined based on the first media item characteristic and the second media item characteristic. Ranking of the second media item or the matching first media item is adjusted to reflect the correspondence between the second media item and the matching first media item. Information associated with the matching first media item is provided to a first user device based on the adjusted ranking.

Claims (50)

1. A method comprising:

accessing a data store comprising a first plurality of first media items of a first type, wherein a first media item of the first plurality of first media items is associated with a first media item characteristic;

identifying a second media item of a second type, wherein the second media item comprises a second media item characteristic;

determining, based on the first media item characteristic and the second media item characteristic, a matching first media item of the first plurality of first media items that matches the second media item;

causing a ranking of at least one of the second media item or the matching first media item to be adjusted to reflect a correspondence between the second media item and the matching first media item, wherein causing the ranking of the at least one of the second media item or the matching first media item to be adjusted comprises combining a first set of popularity indicators associated with the second media item and a second set of popularity indicators associated with the matching first media item; and

providing, based on the adjusted ranking, information associated with the matching first media item to a first user device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media item characteristic comprises at least one of: a first transcript of audio, a first audio content, a first title, a first description, a first duration, or a first publication date; and wherein the second media item characteristic comprises at least one of: a second transcript of audio, a second audio content, a second title, a second description, a second duration, or a second publication date.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second media item is received from a second user device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the matching first media item of the first plurality of first media items that matches the second media item comprises:

comparing the second media item characteristic to the first media item characteristic associated with each of the first plurality of first media items of the first type;

determining, for each of the first plurality of first media items, a matching score based on the comparing; and

identifying the matching first media item that has a highest matching score, wherein the matching score satisfies a matching criterion.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the matching first media item of the first plurality of first media items that matches the second media item comprises:

providing the second media item characteristic as input to a machine learning model trained to identify the matching first media item based on the first media item characteristic.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information associated with the matching first media item is provided in response to receiving a search query from the first user device, wherein a result of the search query comprises the second media item.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the result of the search query comprises analytical information associated with the matching first media item.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information associated with the matching first media item comprises one or more of host information, previous/next podcast episode controls, or a listen-only option.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ranking of the second media item is based on popularity indicators associated with the second media item and the ranking of the matching first media item is based on popularity indicators associated with the matching first media item, and wherein causing the ranking of at least one of the second media item or the matching first media item to be adjusted to reflect the correspondence between the second media item and the matching first media item comprises:

combining the popularity indicators associated with the second media item and the popularity indicators associated with the matching first media item.

10. A system comprising:

a memory; and

a processing device communicably coupled to the memory, the processing device to:

access a data store comprising a first plurality of first media items of a first type, wherein a first media item of the first plurality of first media items is associated with a first media item characteristic;

identify a second media item of a second type, wherein the second media item comprises a second media item characteristic;

determine, based on the first media item characteristic and the second media item characteristic, a matching first media item of the first plurality of first media items that matches the second media item;

cause a ranking of at least one of the second media item or the matching first media item to be adjusted to reflect a correspondence between the second media item and the matching first media item, wherein causing the ranking of the at least one of the second media item or the matching first media item to be adjusted comprises combining a first set of popularity indicators associated with the second media item and a second set of popularity indicators associated with the matching first media item; and

provide, based on the adjusted ranking, information associated with the matching first media item to a first user device.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first media item characteristic comprises at least one of: a first transcript of audio, a first audio content, a first title, a first description, a first duration, or a first publication date; and wherein the second media item characteristic comprises at least one of: a second transcript of audio, a second audio content, a second title, a second description, a second duration, or a second publication date.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein to determine the matching first media item of the first plurality of first media items that matches the second media item, the processing device is further to:

compare the second media item characteristic to the first media item characteristic associated with each of the first plurality of first media items of the first type;

determine, for each of the first plurality of first media items, a matching score based on the comparing; and

identify the matching first media item that has a highest matching score, wherein the matching score satisfies a matching criterion.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein to determine the matching first media item of the first plurality of fir media items that matches the second media item, the processing device is further to:

provide the second media item characteristic as input to a machine learning model trained to identify the matching first media item based on the first media item characteristic.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the information associated with the matching first media item is provided in response to receiving a search query from the first user device, wherein a result of the search query comprises the second media item, and wherein the result of the search query comprises analytical information associated with the matching first media item.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the information associated with the matching first media item comprises one or more of host information, previous/next podcast episode controls, or a listen-only option.

16. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that cause a processing device to perform operations comprising:

accessing a data store comprising a first plurality of first media items of a first type, wherein a first media item of the first plurality of first media items is associated with a first media item characteristic;

identifying a second media item of a second type, wherein the second media item comprises a second media item characteristic;

determining, based on the first media item characteristic and the second media item characteristic, a matching first media item of the first plurality of first media items that matches the second media item;

causing a ranking of at least one of the second media item or the matching first media item to be adjusted to reflect a correspondence between the second media item and the matching first media item, wherein causing the ranking of the at least one of the second media item or the matching first media item to be adjusted comprises combining a first set of popularity indicators associated with the second media item and a second set of popularity indicators associated with the matching first media item; and

providing, based on the adjusted ranking, information associated with the matching first media item to a first user device.

17. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the first media item characteristic comprises at least one of: a first transcript of audio, a first audio content, a first title, a first description, a first duration, or a first publication date; and wherein the second media item characteristic comprises at least one of: a second transcript of audio, a second audio content, a second title, a second description, a second duration, or a second publication date.
