Abstract

A display device includes a display area including a plurality of pixels arrayed next to one another in a first direction and in a second direction that is different from the first direction, and a control circuit, wherein each of the pixels includes a light-emitting element configured to emit light by a current flowing therethrough, a drive transistor, a shut-off transistor, and a holding capacitance.

Claims (22)

1 . A driving circuit for a light-emitting display comprising:

a video voltage signal terminal outputting a video voltage signal for display;

an initialization voltage signal terminal outputting an initialization voltage signal for an offset cancelling operation; and

an emission control signal terminal outputting an emission control signal for controlling a power supply to a light-emitting element of the light emitting display and a black-insertion ratio, wherein

the emission control signal is configured to supply a power voltage while the initialization voltage is written into the light-emitting element, and then shut off the power voltage while the video voltage signal is written into the light-emitting element, and then supply the power voltage in an emission-enabled period at a black insertion rate which is a ratio of a period in which the power voltage is shut off to a period of the emission-enabled period,

a luminance set value corresponds to the black insertion rate and a voltage difference between the initialization voltage signal and the video voltage signal,

as the luminance set value gets lower, the black insertion rate and the initialization voltage get higher, and

a difference in black insertion rate increases relative to a difference in the initialization voltage, as the luminance set value gets lower, and as the initialization voltage gets higher.

2 . The driving circuit according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a lighting control signal terminal outputting a lighting control signal, the power voltage being switched to be supplied from being shut off by the lighting control signal before a voltage signal is output.

3 . A driving circuit for a light-emitting display comprising:

a video voltage signal terminal outputting a video voltage signal for display;

an initialization voltage signal terminal outputting an initialization voltage signal for an offset cancelling operation;

an emission control signal terminal outputting an emission control signal for controlling a power supply to a light-emitting element of the light emitting display and a black-insertion ratio;

a lighting control signal terminal outputting a lighting control signal, a power voltage being switched to be supplied from being shut off by the lighting control signal before a voltage signal is output; and

a reset control signal terminal supplying a reset potential to the light emitting element when the power voltage is shut off,

wherein

the emission control signal is configured to supply the power voltage while the initialization voltage is written into the light-emitting element, and then shut off the power voltage while the video voltage signal is written into the light-emitting element, and then supply the power voltage in an emission-enabled period at a black insertion rate which is a ratio of a period in which the power voltage is shut off to a period of the emission-enabled period,

a luminance set value corresponds to the black insertion rate and a voltage difference between the initialization voltage signal and the video voltage signal,

as the luminance set value gets lower, the black insertion rate and the initialization voltage get higher, and

a difference in black insertion rate increases relative to a difference in the initialization voltage, as the luminance set value gets lower, and as the initialization voltage gets higher.

4 . The driving circuit according to claim 3 , wherein the video voltage signal terminal, the initialization voltage signal terminal, and the emission control signal terminal are controlled by a control circuit.
