HIGH SOLUBILITY IRON HEXACYANIDES
Methods for forming aqueous solutions including iron hexacyanides are described. Such aqueous solutions can have ferrocyanide/ferricyanide concentrations higher than previously observed or employed, and such solutions can have application to energy storage systems.
1 . A method, comprising:
reacting a calcium salt of iron (II) hexacyanide [Fe(CN) 6 4− ] with one or more Na+ and K+-containing basic salts so as to produce an aqueous solution comprising both Na+ and K+ cations and having a concentration of Fe(CN) 6 4− in the aqueous solution that exceeds a concentration of Fe(CN) 6 4− in either a saturated aqueous solution of Na 4 [Fe(CN) 6 ] or a saturated aqueous solution of K 4 [Fe(CN) 6 ] in water at a same temperature as that of the aqueous solution,
the calcium salt of iron (II) hexacyanide [Fe(CN) 6 4− ] optionally comprising CaNa 2 [Fe(CN) 6 ] or CaK 2 [Fe(CN) 6 ], and
optionally removing any precipitated calcium (Ca) salt.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more Na+/K+-containing basic salts comprise one or more of hydroxide, carbonate, or bicarbonate.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more Na+/K+-containing basic salts comprise hydroxide.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the wherein the one or more Na+/K+-containing basic salts comprise one or more of carbonate or bicarbonate.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the calcium salt of iron (II) hexacyanide [Fe(CN) 6 4− ] comprises at least one of CaNa 2 [Fe(CN) 6 ] or CaK 2 [Fe(CN) 6 ].
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising removing precipitated calcium (Ca) salt.
