Abstract

Systems and methods for dispensing consumable liquids are disclosed. An example networked system includes a server and a plurality of beverage dispenser stations. Each of the beverage dispenser stations includes a filler including a filler outlet configured to deliver a beverage into a container, an RFID reader configured to read an RFID tag fixed to a water filter through which water for the beverage is to flow, and a controller. The controller is configured determine a duration-of-use of the water filter and a volume of water that has passed through the water filter. Each of the beverage dispenser stations also includes a network communications interface configured to communicate the duration-of-use and the volume of water to the networked administrative server to track use of the water filter among the plurality of beverage dispenser stations.

Claims (35)

1. A beverage dispenser comprising:

a filler including a filler outlet configured to dispense a beverage;

a fluid flow line in fluid communication with the filler outlet;

a controller configured with a processor and a computer readable medium including computer executable instructions for carrying out a set of beverage dispenser operations, the operations including an “off” operating mode characterized by no flow of beverage from the filler outlet and an “on” operating mode characterized by a flow of beverage through the filler outlet; and

a base station connected to the controller and configured to communicate with an external server to transmit to or receive from the external server instructions indicating a current or a desired operating state, such that the beverage dispenser can be remotely controlled to be in the “on” or “off” operating states so that beverage flow can be selectively and remotely started or stopped.

2. The beverage dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the base station communicates with the external server via at least one of Ethernet, Local Radio Network, Cellular Modem, Status LEDs, JTAG and Debug, USB, or Power Entry.

3. The beverage dispenser of claim 2 , wherein the Local Radio Network is a WiFi network.

4. The beverage dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the base station downloads data from the external server, the data defining a filter media change schedule.

5. The beverage dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the controller is operative to detect a beverage dispenser error condition, and in response thereto transmit an error condition signal to the base station, which in turn transmits the error condition to the external server.

6. The beverage dispenser of claim 5 , wherein the error condition is one of a water supply shut off, low water supply pressure or a filter tamper detection.

7. The beverage dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the controller calculates operational parameters relating to the beverage dispenser and stores the operational parameters as operational data, the operational data includes a duration-of-use of a filter.

8. The beverage dispenser of claim 1 , further comprising a clock configured to track and measure a duration-of-use of a filter and a volume-of-fluid-flow through the filler.

9. The beverage dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the beverage dispenser is assigned to a group of beverage dispensers based on the proximity to a particular location, wherein the controller is configured to apply a set of settings transmitted to the group of beverage dispensers.

10. The beverage dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the operating states also includes the “waiting to clear” state in which beverage flow has stopped and a sensor continues to detect when an object leaves the sensor field, further wherein the filler displays an “error” state when the object remains in the sensor field within a prescribed time period.

11. A method of a beverage dispenser, the method comprising:

a filler including a filler outlet configured to dispense a beverage;

a fluid flow line in fluid communication with the filler outlet;

a controller configured with a processor and a computer readable medium including computer executable instructions for carrying out a set of beverage dispenser operations, the operations including an “off”' operating mode characterized by no flow of beverage from the filler outlet and an “on” operating mode characterized by a flow of beverage through the filler outlet; and

a base station connected to the controller and configured to communicate with an external server to transmit to or receive from the external server instructions indicating a current or a desired operating state, such that the beverage dispenser can be remotely controlled to be in the “on” or “off” operating states so that beverage flow can be selectively and remotely started or stopped,

wherein the controller calculates operational parameters relating to the beverage dispenser and stores the operational parameters as operational data, the operational data includes a duration-of-use of a filter.

12. The beverage dispenser of claim 11 , wherein the base station communicates with the external server via at least one of Ethernet, Local Radio Network, Cellular Modem, Status LEDs, JTAG and Debug, USB, or Power Entry.

13. The beverage dispenser of claim 12 , wherein the Local Radio Network is a WiFi network.

14. The beverage dispenser of claim 11 , wherein the base station downloads data from the external server, the data defining a filter media change schedule.

15. The beverage dispenser of claim 11 , wherein the controller is operative to detect a beverage dispenser error condition, and in response thereto transmit an error condition signal to the base station, which in turn transmits the error condition to the external server.

16. The beverage dispenser of claim 15 , wherein the error condition is one of a water supply shut off, low water supply pressure or a filter tamper detection.

17. The beverage dispenser of claim 11 , further comprising a clock configured to track and measure a duration-of-use of a filter and a volume-of-fluid-flow through the filler.

18. The beverage dispenser of claim 11 , wherein the beverage dispenser is assigned to a group of beverage dispensers based on the proximity to a particular location, wherein the controller is configured to apply a set of settings transmitted to the group of beverage dispensers.

19. The beverage dispenser of claim 11 , wherein the operating states also includes the “waiting to clear” state in which beverage flow has stopped and a sensor continues to detect when an object leaves the sensor field, further wherein the filler displays an “error” state when the object remains in the sensor field within a prescribed time period.

20. A beverage dispenser comprising:

a filler including a filler outlet configured to dispense a beverage;

a fluid flow line in fluid communication with the filler outlet;

a controller configured with a processor and a computer readable medium including computer executable instructions for carrying out a set of beverage dispenser operations, the operations including an “off” operating mode characterized by no flow of beverage from the filler outlet, an “on” operating mode characterized by a flow of beverage through the filler outlet,

wherein the beverage dispenser is assigned to a group of beverage dispensers based on the proximity to a particular location, further wherein the controller is configured to apply a set of settings transmitted to the group of beverage dispensers; and

a base station connected to the controller and configured to communicate with an external server to transmit to or receive from the external server instructions indicating a current or a desired operating state, such that the beverage dispenser can be remotely controlled to be in the “on” or “off” operating states so that beverage flow can be selectively and remotely started or stopped,

wherein the controller is operative to detect a beverage dispenser error condition, and in response thereto transmit an error condition signal to the base station, which in turn transmits the error condition to the external server.
