Abstract

Methods and systems for user communication in an online community and/or website are provided. User profile data may be accessed to from a memory. An analysis system compares the user profile data for the user with a time-dependent goal to determine a result. The time-dependent goal may be determined based on an analysis of a set of (successful) users. A user interface system generates a representation of the result for prompting the user to initiate a communication to a different user based on the time-dependent goal. The representation may comprise a metered representation indicating an amount of progress, by the user, toward the time-dependent goal.

Claims (31)

1 . A method implemented by an online dating service, the method comprising:

providing a plurality of time-dependent goals for a first user of the online dating service for a plurality of actions in a plurality of time windows;

determining a goal for the first user of the online dating service, the goal being one of the plurality of time-dependent goals and being a benchmark for initiating communications with other users on the online dating service;

accessing user profile data of the first user; and

comparing the user profile data of the first user with the goal to generate a prompt for the first user to perform at least one action associated with the goal, wherein the at least one action is one of the plurality of actions and is to initiate at least one communication indicative of a dating interest of the first user in a second user of the online dating service, the at least one action defined by a number of communications to be performed to other users on the online dating service within a predetermined number of days, and the predetermined number of days is one of the plurality of time windows, the prompt including at least one of a message or text output.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one communication is a like.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining the goal, at least in part based on an analysis of at least one user having a predefined level of success in the online dating service.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined number of days is a multiple of seven days.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second user is a user of the online dating service with whom the first user has not previously communicated.

6 . An apparatus for an online dating service, the apparatus comprising:

a memory including logic; and

a processor that executes the logic to

provide a plurality of time-dependent goals for a first user of the online dating service for a plurality of actions in a plurality of time windows,

determine a goal for the first user of the online dating service, the goal being one of the plurality of time-dependent goals and being a benchmark for initiating communications with other users on the online dating service,

access user profile data of the first user, and

compare the user profile data of the first user with the goal to generate a prompt for the first user to perform at least one action associated with the goal, wherein the at least one action is one of the plurality of actions and is to initiate at least one communication indicative of a dating interest of the first user in a second user of the online dating service, the at least one action defined by a number of communications to be performed to other users on the online dating service within a predetermined number of days, and the predetermined number of days is one of the plurality of time windows, the prompt including at least one of a message or text output.

7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the at least one communication is a like.

8 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the processor further executes the logic to determine the goal, at least in part based on an analysis of at least one user having a predefined level of success in the online dating service.

9 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the predetermined number of days is a multiple of seven days.

10 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the second user is a user of the online dating service with whom the first user has not previously communicated.

11 . A non-transitory, computer-readable medium encoded with logic that, when executed by a processor, performs operations implemented by an online dating service, the operations comprising:

providing a plurality of time-dependent goals for a first user of the online dating service for a plurality of actions in a plurality of time windows;

determining a goal for the first user of the online dating service, the goal being one of the plurality of time-dependent goals and being a benchmark for initiating communications with other users on the online dating service;

accessing user profile data of the first user; and

comparing the user profile data of the first user with the goal to generate a prompt for the first user to perform at least one action associated with the goal, wherein the at least one action is one of the plurality of actions and is to initiate at least one communication indicative of a dating interest of the first user in a second user of the online dating service, the at least one action defined by a number of communications to be performed to other users on the online dating service within a predetermined number of days, and the predetermined number of days is one of the plurality of time windows, the prompt including at least one of a message or text output.

12 . The medium of claim 11 , wherein the at least one communication is a like.

13 . The medium of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

determining the goal, at least in part based on an analysis of at least one user having a predefined level of success in the online dating service.

14 . The medium of claim 11 , wherein the predetermined number of days is a multiple of seven days.

15 . The medium of claim 11 , wherein the second user is a user of the online dating service with whom the first user has not previously communicated.
