Abstract

A surgical and a laparoscopic/arthroscopic method for operating hip osteoarthritis using an instrument that is adapted to create a through-going hole placed in the acetabulum area from the abdominal side of the pelvic bone of the human patient. The instrument comprises: a driving member, a bone contacting organ in connection with said driving member, an operating device adapted to operate said driving member. The bone contacting organ is adapted to create a hole in the acetabulum area starting from the abdominal side of the pelvic bone through repetitive or continuous movement.

Claims (37)

1 . A method of treating a hip joint of a human patient, said method comprising the steps of:

creating a hole in a pelvic bone passing into the hip joint of the human patient,

placing a mold inside of the hip joint from an abdominal side of the pelvic bone through said hole in the pelvic bone of the human patient, and

providing at least one hip joint surface to the hip joint by injecting a fluid into said mold placed inside of the hip joint of the human patient.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein

the fluid is injected into the mold from the abdominal side of the pelvic bone through said hole in the pelvic bone of the human patient.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , said method further comprising the steps of:

inserting a needle or tube like instrument into the patient's body,

using the needle or tube like instrument to fill a part of the patient's body with gas and thereby expanding a cavity within the patient's body,

placing at least two laparoscopic/arthroscopic trocars in said cavity,

inserting a camera through one of the laparoscopic/arthroscopic trocars into said cavity,

inserting at least one dissecting tool through one of said at least two laparoscopic/arthroscopic trocars, and

dissecting an area of the pelvic bone on the opposite side from an acetabulum of the hip joint,

wherein the step of creating a hole passing into the hip joint encompass passing through the pelvic bone and creating the hole in said dissected area using a pelvic drill, said hole passing through the pelvic bone and into the hip joint of the human patient.

4 . The method according to claim 3 , wherein the step of dissecting an area of the pelvic bone comprises dissecting:

a. an area between peritoneum and the pelvic bone,

b. an area between the pelvic bone and the surrounding tissue,

c. an area of the inguinal region, and

d. an area of the abdominal cavity.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein said hole passing into the hip joint is made in the pelvic bone, and said method further comprises the step of closing said hole in the pelvic bone by means of any one of: bone cement, a bone plug, and a prosthetic part.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein

the fluid is injected into a sealed area from the abdominal side of the pelvic bone through said hole in the pelvic bone of the human patient.

7 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein said cavity is located in one of:

a. an abdominal region,

b. an inguinal region, and

c. a pelvic region.

8 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising a step of cutting the skin of the human patient in one of:

a. an abdominal wall,

b. an inguinal area, and

c. a pelvic region.

9 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein said hole is created with a pelvic drill comprising a driving member and a bone contacting member which together form an elongated member, and wherein the method further comprises the step of placing said elongated member so as to achieve a first supporting point for the bone contacting member in a femoral bone of the hip joint and a second supporting point in the pelvic bone.

10 . The method according to claim 9 , further comprising connecting an operation device providing a force to said driving member from outside of the patient's body, lateral onto the patient's opposite side pelvic bone.

11 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein said elongated member receives said force from said operation device in the abdomen or outside the patient's body, lateral of a proximal femoral bone of the opposite side of the hip joint.

12 . A method of treating a hip joint of a human patient said method comprising the steps of:

creating a hole in a pelvic bone passing into the hip joint of the human patient,

placing at least one sealing member from an abdominal side of the pelvic bone through said hole in the pelvic bone of the human patient between an acetabulum and a caput femur of the hip joint, thus creating a sealed area between the acetabulum and the caput femur, and

providing at least one hip joint surface to the hip joint by injecting a fluid into said sealed area between the acetabulum and the caput femur.
