Abstract

The present invention relates to a flame retarded insulating composition for covering electric battery busbars, comprising by weight: (a) from 30 to 65%, more particularly from 30 to 63.9%, in particular from 30 to 60%, of at least one semi-crystalline aliphatic polyamide, (b) from 15 to 40%, more particularly from 15 to 30%, of at least one semi-aromatic polyamide, (c) from 15 to 30%, more particularly from 20 to 25%, of at least one phosphinate flame retardant, (d) from 5 to 20%, more particularly from 5 to 15%, of at least one functionalized polyolefin, (e) from 0 to 6%, more particularly from 1 to 6%, in particular between 2 and 4%, of at least one plasticizer, (f) from 0 to 10%, more particularly 10 from 0.1 to 5%, of at least one additive, the sum of the constituents (a) to (f) being equal to 100%.

Claims (20)

1 . A flame retarded insulating composition for covering electric battery busbars, comprising by weight:

(a) from 30 to 65% of at least one semi-crystalline aliphatic polyamide,

(b) from 15 to 40% of at least one semi-aromatic polyamide,

(c) from 15 to 30% of at least one phosphinate flame retardant,

(d) from 5 to 20% of at least one functionalized polyolefin,

(e) from 0 to 6% of at least one plasticizer,

(f) from 0 to 10% of at least one additive, the sum of the constituents (a) to (f) being equal to 100%.

2 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the polyamide is a long-chain polyamide having a number of carbons per nitrogen atom of greater than or equal to 8.

3 . The composition as claimed in claim 2 , wherein said long-chain polyamide is chosen from PA610, PA612, PA1010, PA1012, PA11 and PA12.

4 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said at least one semi-crystalline aliphatic polyamide is chosen from PA1010, PA1012, PA11 and PA12.

5 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said semi-aromatic polyamide is a polyamide of formula MXDY in which MXD corresponds to meta-xylylenediamine and Y is a C6 to C18 aliphatic dicarboxylic acid.

6 . The composition as claimed in claim 5 , wherein said semi-aromatic polyamide of formula MXDY is chosen from MXD6, MXD10 and MXD12.

7 . The composition as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the flame retardant is a metal salt chosen from a metal salt of phosphinic acid, a metal salt of diphosphinic acid, a polymer containing at least one metal salt of phosphinic acid and a polymer containing at least one metal salt of diphosphinic acid.

8 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the polyolefin is crosslinked.

9 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the additives are chosen from antioxidants, colored pigments and flame retardancy synergists.

10 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the composition is free of polyether block amides (PEBA).

11 . The composition as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the composition is free of reinforcing fibers.

12 . A method of using a composition as defined in claim 1 for covering, insulating and flame retarding an electric battery busbar.

13 . The method as claimed in claim 12 , wherein said busbar is located inside and/or outside electric batteries.

14 . A process for producing a covered, insulated and flame retarded electric battery busbar, comprising a step of extruding a composition as defined in claim 1 onto an electric battery busbar, or a step of powder coating said composition onto an electric battery busbar.
