Demineralized bone fiber composition for rotator cuff and ACL repair
A composition and methods thereof include bone fibers made from cortical bone in which a plurality of bone fibers are made into shapes that are used to augment rotator cuff and acl repair. Sheets of bone fibers may be used as an interface between bone and tissue, tendons, and/or ligaments. The physical presence of the fibers provides initial fixation, while the use of an osteoinductive material provides long term enhancement of bone formation. A delivery system and methods of use are also provided.
1 . A method for rotator cuff repair, comprising:
providing a demineralized bone fiber (DBF) sheet onto a bed of a bone bed between the bone and a tendon to be reattached to the bone,
wherein the DBF sheet consists of a plurality of cut fibers from demineralized bone, the plurality of cut demineralized bone fibers (DBF) molded to form a sheet of DBF.
2 . The method of claim 1 , the method further comprising using a suture anchor positioned in the bone with a suture placed in the suture anchor extending therefrom to the tendon to be reattached with the DBF sheet therebetween.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the DBF sheet is 0.5 to 5 mm thick.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of cut demineralized DBF is processed with an aqueous solution.
5 . A method for rotator cuff repair, comprising:
providing a demineralized bone fiber (DBF) sheet onto a bed of a bone bed between the bone and a tendon to be reattached to the bone,
wherein the DBF sheet consists of:
a plurality of cut fibers from demineralized bone, the plurality of cut demineralized bone fibers (DBF) molded to form a sheet of DBF;
an aqueous solution; and
resorbable polymers, bioactive glasses, or mixtures thereof.
