Abstract

A method may include transmitting a downlink frame that is eliciting a response from a plurality of stations, the downlink frame including a first address field, receiving an uplink frame in response to the downlink frame, the uplink frame including a second address field, and receiving the uplink frame on a resource allocated by resource allocation information included in the downlink frame for an uplink multi-user transmission. The second address field is set to a value of the first address field when the downlink frame is of a first type or a value of an address associated with a station (STA) when the downlink frame is of a second type. The AP simultaneously receives uplink frames in response to the first type of downlink frame, where the AP simultaneously receives uplink data frames.

Claims (19)

1 . A method performed by an access point (AP), comprising:

transmitting a downlink frame that is eliciting a response from a plurality of stations, the downlink frame including a first address field;

receiving an uplink frame in response to the downlink frame, the uplink frame including a second address field, wherein the second address field is set to a value of the first address field when the downlink frame is of a first type, or a value of an address associated with a station (STA) when the downlink frame is of a second type; and

receiving the uplink frame on a resource allocated by resource allocation information included in the downlink frame for an uplink multi-user transmission,

wherein the AP simultaneously receives uplink frames in response to the first type of downlink frame, wherein the AP simultaneously receives uplink data frames.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first address field corresponds to a receiver address field and the second address field corresponds to a transmitter address field.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first type of the downlink frame is a multi-user request-to-send (MU-RTS) frame eliciting clear-to-send (CTS) frames from the plurality of stations.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein in response to the downlink frame is the first type, the uplink frame is a CTS frame, such that the transmitter address field of the CTS frame is set equal to the receiver address field of the MU-RTS frame.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second type of the downlink frame is a trigger frame eliciting data frames from the plurality of stations.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the downlink frame is the second type, and in response the uplink frame is a data frame, such that the transmitter address field of the data frame is set equal to a basic service set (BSS) identifier associated with the plurality of stations.

7 . A non-transitory machine readable medium that stores instructions, which when executed by a processor of an access point (AP), cause the AP to:

transmit a downlink frame that is eliciting a response from a plurality of stations, the downlink frame including a first address field;

receive an uplink frame in response to the downlink frame, the uplink frame including a second address field, wherein the second address field is set to a value of the first address field when the downlink frame is of a first type, or a value of an address associated with a station (STA) when the downlink frame is of a second type; and

receive the uplink frame on a resource allocated by resource allocation information included in the downlink frame for an uplink multi-user transmission,

wherein the AP simultaneously receives uplink frames in response to the first type of downlink frame, wherein the AP simultaneously receives uplink data frames.

8 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the first address field corresponds to a receiver address field and the second address field corresponds to a transmitter address field.

9 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the first type of the downlink frame is a multi-user request-to-send (MU-RTS) frame eliciting clear-to-send (CTS) frames from the plurality of stations; and in response to the downlink frame is the first type, the uplink frame is a CTS frame, such that the transmitter address field of the CTS frame is set equal to the receiver address field of the MU-RTS frame.

10 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the second type of the downlink frame is a trigger frame eliciting data frames from the plurality of stations; and in response to the downlink frame is the second type, the uplink frame is a data frame, such that the transmitter address field of the data frame is set equal to a basic service set (BSS) identifier associated with the plurality of stations.

11 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the uplink frame includes an indication on whether one or more frames in an aggregated media access control protocol data unit (A-MPDU) of the uplink frame are disallowed to solicit an immediate response.
