Abstract

Systems, devices, and techniques for antenna port configuration in wireless communication systems are described. A described technique performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving configuration information that determines a bit-width value for an antenna port indication field of a downlink control information (DCI) format; receiving a DCI message that is in accordance with the DCI format; and determining an antenna port configuration for one or more demodulation reference signals based on the DCI message, the configuration information, and the bit-width value.

Claims (39)

1. A method comprising:

receiving configuration information associated with an antenna port indication field of a downlink control information (DCI) format;

determining that a bit-width value for the antenna port indication field of the DCI format is equal to zero based at least on the configuration information;

receiving a DCI message that is in accordance with the DCI format; and

determining, based at least on the bit-width value being equal to zero, to use a default value for an antenna port configuration, instead of determining a value for the antenna port configuration based on the antenna port indication field in the DCI message; and

receiving one or more demodulation reference signals using the antenna port configuration based at least in part on a result of the determination to use the default value for the antenna port configuration.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the antenna port configuration comprises determining an antenna port number for the antenna port configuration based on the default value and a mapping between antenna port indication values and antenna port numbers.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the default value corresponds to an entry of the mapping between the antenna port indication values and the antenna port numbers.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the antenna port configuration comprises using a predetermined antenna port configuration based on a determination that the bit-width value of the antenna port indication field is equal to zero.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information indicates that the antenna port indication field is not configured for the DCI format.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the configuration information comprises receiving radio resource control (RRC) signaling that indicates the configuration information.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the one or more demodulation reference signals comprises receiving the one or more demodulation reference signals using one or more demodulation reference signal ports associated with the default value.

8. An apparatus comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed, are configured to cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

receiving configuration information associated with an antenna port indication field of a downlink control information (DCI) format;

determining that a bit-width value for the antenna port indication field of the DCI format is equal to zero based at least on the configuration information;

receiving a DCI message that is in accordance with the DCI format;

determining, based at least on the bit-width value being equal to zero, to use a default value for an antenna port configuration, instead of determining a value for the antenna port configuration based on the antenna port indication field in the DCI message; and

receiving one or more demodulation reference signals using the antenna port configuration based at least in part on a result of the determination to use the default value for the antenna port configuration.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein determining the antenna port configuration comprises determining an antenna port number for the antenna port configuration based on the default value and a mapping between antenna port indication values and antenna port numbers.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the default value corresponds to an entry of the mapping between the antenna port indication values and the antenna port numbers.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein determining the antenna port configuration comprises using a predetermined antenna port configuration based on a determination that the bit-width value of the antenna port indication field is equal to zero.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the configuration information indicates that the antenna port indication field is not configured for the DCI format.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein receiving the configuration information comprises receiving radio resource control (RRC) signaling that indicates the configuration information.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein receiving the one or more demodulation reference signals comprises receiving the one or more demodulation reference signals using one or more demodulation reference signal ports associated with the default value.

15. An apparatus comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed, are configured to cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

transmitting configuration information associated with an antenna port indication field of a downlink control information (DCI) format;

determining that a bit-width value for the antenna port indication field of the DCI format is equal to zero based at least on the configuration information;

transmitting a DCI message that is in accordance with the DCI format;

determining a default value for an antenna port configuration based at least on the bit-width value being equal to zero, instead of determining a value for the antenna port configuration based on the antenna port indication field in the DCI message; and

transmitting one or more demodulation reference signals using the antenna port configuration based at least in part on a result of the determination to use the default value for the antenna port configuration.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein determining the antenna port configuration comprises determining an antenna port number for the antenna port configuration based on the default value and a mapping between antenna port indication values and antenna port numbers.

17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the default value corresponds to an entry of the mapping between the antenna port indication values and the antenna port numbers.

18. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein determining the antenna port configuration comprises using a predetermined antenna port configuration based on a determination that the bit-width value of the antenna port indication field is equal to zero.

19. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the configuration information indicates that the antenna port indication field is not configured for the DCI format.

20. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein receiving the configuration information comprises receiving radio resource control (RRC) signaling that indicates the configuration information.
