Abstract

Techniques disclosed herein relate to food analysis and glucose level management. In some examples, the techniques involve determining a consumption of a first food item by a user, receiving data indicative of a glucose level of the user, determining an effect of the first food item on the glucose level of the user based on a change of the glucose level of the user, and storing the effect of the first food item on the glucose level of the user to a database that includes data indicating effects of individual food items on the glucose level of the user. In some examples, the techniques also involve providing one or more recommendations for managing the glucose level of the user based on the data in the database and a food item consumed by the user.

Claims (55)

1 . A processor-implemented method comprising:

determining a consumption of a first food item by a user;

receiving data indicative of a glucose level of the user;

determining an effect of the first food item on the glucose level of the user based on a change of the glucose level of the user; and

storing the effect of the first food item on the glucose level of the user to a database that includes data indicating effects of individual food items on the glucose level of the user.

2 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein determining the consumption of the first food item by the user comprises analyzing (1) one or more images of one or more food items consumed by the user, (2) one or more videos of one or more food items consumed by the user, (3) one or more voice logs of one or more food items consumed by the user, (4) one or more text logs of one or more food items consumed by the user, (5) one or more barcodes associated with one or more food items consumed by the user, (6) one or more labels associated with one or more food items consumed by the user, or a combination thereof.

3 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein determining the consumption of the first food item by the user comprises:

determining a quantity of the first food item;

determining a serving size of the first food item;

determining one or more ingredients within the first food item;

determining nutrition information of the first food item; or

a combination thereof.

4 . The processor-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein determining the one or more ingredients or the nutrition information includes determining the one or more ingredients or the nutrition information based on a food ontology of the first food item.

5 . The processor-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein the nutrition information includes a carbohydrate content of the first food item.

6 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a second food item consumed by the user; and

estimating, based on the data in the database, a glucose level of the user at a time after the consumption of the second food item.

7 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a second food item consumed by the user; and

providing, based on the data in the database and the second food item, one or more recommendations for managing the glucose level of the user.

8 . The processor-implemented method of claim 7 , wherein the one or more recommendations for managing the glucose level of the user include an insulin delivery recommendation.

9 . The processor-implemented method of claim 7 , wherein the one or more recommendations for managing the glucose level of the user include a dietary recommendation, a lifestyle recommendation, or a combination thereof.

10 . The processor-implemented method of claim 7 , further comprising visually annotating an image of one or more food items consumed by the user with (1) ingredients within each food item of the one or more food items, (2) nutrition information of each food item of the one or more food items, (3) a rating or ranking of each food item of the one or more food items, or a combination thereof.

11 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the data indicative of the glucose level of the user includes measurement data from a continuous glucose monitoring device.

12 . The processor-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first food item comprises an elementary food item, a food item made using a recipe, a packaged food item, a restaurant dish, or a beverage.

13 . A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of operations comprising:

determining a consumption of a first food item by a user;

receiving data indicative of a glucose level of the user;

determining an effect of the first food item on the glucose level of the user based on a change of the glucose level of the user; and

storing the effect of the first food item on the glucose level of the user to a database that includes data indicating effects of individual food items on the glucose level of the user.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein determining the consumption of the first food item by the user comprises analyzing (1) one or more images of one or more food items consumed by the user, (2) one or more videos of one or more food items consumed by the user, (3) one or more voice logs of one or more food items consumed by the user, (4) one or more text logs of one or more food items consumed by the user, (5) one or more barcodes associated with one or more food items consumed by the user, (6) one or more labels associated with one or more food items consumed by the user, or a combination thereof.

15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein determining the consumption of the first food item by the user comprises:

determining a quantity of the first food item;

determining a serving size of the first food item;

determining one or more ingredients within the first food item;

determining nutrition information of the first food item; or

a combination thereof.

16 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise:

determining a second food item consumed by the user;

estimating, based on the data in the database, a glucose level of the user at a time after the consumption of the second food item; and

providing one or more recommendations for managing the glucose level of the user based on (1) the data in the database, (2) the second food item, (3) the estimated glucose level of the user, or a combination thereof.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the one or more recommendations for managing the glucose level of the user include an insulin delivery recommendation, a dietary recommendation, a lifestyle recommendation, or a combination thereof.

18 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise visually annotating an image of one or more food items consumed by the user with (1) ingredients within each food item of the one or more food items, (2) nutrition information of each food item of the one or more food items, (3) a rating or ranking of each food item of the one or more food items, or a combination thereof.

19 . A processor-implemented method comprising:

determining a consumption of a food item by a user;

estimating, based on data indicative of effects of individual food items on a glucose level of the user, a change to the glucose level of the user after the consumption of the food item; and

providing one or more recommendations for managing the glucose level of the user based on the estimated change to the glucose level of the user after the consumption of the food item.

20 . The processor-implemented method of claim 19 , wherein determining the consumption of the food item by the user comprises:

determining, based on (1) one or more images of one or more food items consumed by the user, (2) one or more videos of one or more food items consumed by the user, (3) one or more voice logs of one or more food items consumed by the user, (4) one or more text logs of one or more food items consumed by the user, (5) one or more barcodes associated with one or more food items consumed by the user, (6) one or more labels associated with one or more food items consumed by the user, or a combination thereof, at least one of:
