Abstract

Techniques, systems, and methods are disclosed to generate messaging to view content on media devices based on predictive factors. Information may be received to trigger one or more predictive factors and then generate a candidate set of offers to view content at a media device based on the information. Based on the one or more predictive factors, confidence values may be determined for each offer in the candidate set of offers. The candidate set of offers may be ranked based on the associated confidence values. Subsequently, presentation of at least one offer of the candidate set of offers may be caused to display in a user interface screen on the media device based on the ranking.

Claims (47)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method comprising:

tracking viewing habits associated with a user profile with respect to a plurality of previously viewed content items;

determining an oldness score of each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items;

based at least in part on at least one of the tracked viewing habits or the oldness score for each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items, determining an oldness tolerance value associated with the user profile, wherein the oldness tolerance value is indicative of an affinity to view old content having an original air date earlier than an oldness threshold date;

selecting recommendations for one or more content items, based at least in part on the oldness tolerance value and a respective original air date of each of the one or more content items, wherein the one or more content items is not one of the plurality of previously viewed content items; and

causing, via a display device, the recommended one or more content items to be displayed.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein determining the oldness score further comprises:

identifying a respective original air date of each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; and

determining, for each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items, whether the respective original air date is earlier than the oldness threshold date.

23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein selecting the recommendations for the one or more content items further comprises:

ranking each of the one or more content items based on a respective original air date of the each of the one or more content items.

24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the oldness tolerance value is further based at least in part on at least one of: respective amount of time spent viewing each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; respective time of day or week spent viewing each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; respective percentage viewed for each content item; or respective user action associated with each content item.

25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the user action comprises at least one of: a request to record a content item, or a request to stop playback of the content item.

26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the oldness tolerance value is further based at least in part on a number of related content items from the plurality of previously viewed content items that were viewed within a certain time period, wherein one or more of the related content items has a respective original air date that is earlier than the oldness threshold date.

27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein determining the oldness tolerance value is further based at least in part on at least one of: genre of a content item, content type of the content item, a frequency of presentation of the content item, or a temporal length of the content item.

28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the selecting the content item for display is further based at least in part on at least one of: a genre of the content item, a content type of the content item, a frequency of presentation of the content item, or a temporal length of the content item.

29 . A system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

track viewing habits associated with a user profile with respect to a plurality of previously viewed content items;

determine an oldness score of each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items;

based at least in part on at least one of the tracked viewing habits or the oldness score for each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items, determine an oldness tolerance value associated with the user profile, wherein the oldness tolerance value is indicative of an affinity to view old content having an original air date earlier than an oldness threshold date; and

select recommendations for one or more content items, based at least in part on the oldness tolerance value and a respective original air date of each of the one or more content items, wherein the one or more content items is not one of the plurality of previously viewed content items; and

input/output circuitry configured to:

cause, via a display device, the recommended one or more content items to be displayed.

30 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the control circuitry configured to determine the oldness score is further configured to:

identify a respective original air date of each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; and

determine, for each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items, whether the respective original air date is earlier than the oldness threshold date.

31 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the control circuitry configured to select the recommendations for the one or more content items is further configured to:

rank each of the one or more content items based on a respective original air date of the each of the one or more content items.

32 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the oldness tolerance value is further based at least in part on at least one of: respective amount of time spent viewing each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; respective time of day or week spent viewing each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; respective percentage viewed for each content item; or respective user action associated with each content item.

33 . The system of claim 32 , wherein the user action comprises at least one of: a request to record a content item, or a request to stop playback of the content item.

34 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the oldness tolerance value is further based at least in part on a number of related content items from the plurality of previously viewed content items that were viewed within a certain time period, wherein one or more of the related content items has a respective original air date that is earlier than the oldness threshold date.

35 . The system of claim 29 , wherein determining the oldness tolerance value is further based at least in part on at least one of: genre of a content item, content type of the content item, a frequency of presentation of the content item, or a temporal length of the content item.

36 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the selecting the content item for display is further based at least in part on at least one of: a genre of the content item, a content type of the content item, a frequency of presentation of the content item, or a temporal length of the content item.

37 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions encoded thereon that, when executed by control circuitry, cause the control circuitry to:

track viewing habits associated with a user profile with respect to a plurality of previously viewed content items;

determine an oldness score of each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items;

based at least in part on at least one of the tracked viewing habits or the oldness score for each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items, determine an oldness tolerance value associated with the user profile, wherein the oldness tolerance value is indicative of an affinity to view old content having an original air date earlier than an oldness threshold date; and

select recommendations for one or more content items, based at least in part on the oldness tolerance value and a respective original air date of each of the one or more content items, wherein the one or more content items is not one of the plurality of previously viewed content items; and

cause, via a display device, the recommended one or more content items to be displayed.

38 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 37 , wherein execution of the instructions causing the control circuitry to determine the oldness score further causes the control circuitry to:

identify a respective original air date of each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; and

determine, for each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items, whether the respective original air date is earlier than the oldness threshold date.

39 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 37 , wherein execution of the instructions causing the control circuitry to select the recommendations for the one or more content items further causes the control circuitry to:

rank each of the one or more content items based on a respective original air date of the each of the one or more content items.

40 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 37 , wherein the oldness tolerance value is further based at least in part on at least one of: respective amount of time spent viewing each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; respective time of day or week spent viewing each content item of the plurality of previously viewed content items; respective percentage viewed for each content item; or respective user action associated with each content item.
