Abstract

Electrolytes and electrolyte additives for energy storage devices comprising a carboxylic ether, a carboxylic acid based salt, or an acrylate electrolyte are disclosed. The energy storage device comprises a first electrode and a second electrode, wherein at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode is a Si-based electrode, a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode, an electrolyte, and at least one electrolyte additive selected from carboxylic ethers, carboxylic acid based salts, and acrylates.

Claims (25)

1 . An energy storage device comprising:

a first electrode and a second electrode, wherein at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode is a Si-based electrode;

a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode;

an electrolyte; and

at least one electrolyte additive comprising a compound selected from Formulae (A), (B), and (F):

wherein:

R 1 and R 2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of

R 6 is C1-C12 alkyl substituted by —F;

Y is selected from the group consisting of a bond, C1 -C8 alkylene, alkenylene, alkynylene, cycloalkylene, heterocycloalkylene, heteroalkylene,

phenylene, cycloalkenylene, and cycloalkoxylene, each optionally substituted by a moiety selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl,

—F and —CN; and

R is independently C1-C3 alkylene.

2 . The energy storage device of claim 1 , wherein the second electrode is a Si-dominant electrode.

3 . The energy storage device of claim 1 , wherein the second electrode comprises a self-supporting composite material film.

4 . The energy storage device of claim 3 , wherein the composite material film comprises:

greater than 0% and less than about 90% by weight of silicon particles, and

greater than 0% and less than about 90% by weight of one or more types of carbon phases, wherein at least one of the one or more types of carbon phases is a substantially continuous phase that holds the composite material film together such that the silicon particles are distributed throughout the composite material film.

5 . The energy storage device of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyte further comprises fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC).

6 . The energy storage device of claim 5 , wherein the electrolyte is substantially free of non-fluorine containing cyclic carbonate.

The energy storage device of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyte additive is selected from the group consisting of 2,2,3,3,3-Pentafluoropropyl acrylate, 2,2,3,3,4,4,4-Heptafluorobutyl acrylate, 2,2,3,4,4,4-Hexafluorobutyl acrylate, 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7-Dodecafluoroheptyl acrylate; 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluoropentyl acrylate, 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,9,9,10,10,11,11,12,12,12-Heneicosafluorododecyl acrylate, 1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoroisopropyl acrylate, 2,2,3,4,4,4-Hexafluorobutyl methacrylate, and 2,2,3,3-Tetrafluoropropyl methacrylate

10 . The energy storage device of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyte additive is selected from the group consisting of diallyl oxalate; diallyl malonate; diallyl succinate;

diallyl fumarate; diallyl but-2-ynedioate; diallyl glutarate; diallyl adipate; bis (prop-2-enyl) heptanedioate; 2,9-bis (allyloxy) deca-1,9-diene; diallyl isophthalate (CAS: 1087-21-4);

diallyl azelate; diallyl sebacate; (E)-triallyl prop-1-ene-1,2,3-tricarboxylate; diallyl 2-methylenesuccinate; diallyl maleate; diallyl hexane-1,6-diyldicarbamate; diallyl 2,2′-oxydiacetate; triallyl aconitate; tetraallyl 1,2,3,4-cyclopentanetetracarboxylate bis (prop-2-enyl) 7-oxabicyclo [4.1.0] heptane-3,4-dicarboxylate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 2-benzylidenepropanedioate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 2- [(1,3-thiazol-2-ylamino) methylidene] propanedioate; O-Acetyl-citronensaeure-triallylester; tris (prop-2-enyl) propane-1,2,3-tricarboxylate; tris (prop-2-enyl) benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate; tris (2-ethenoxyethyl) benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 2-benzyl-3-oxobutanedioate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 6-methylcyclohex-3-ene-1,2-dicarboxylate; bis (prop-2-enyl) cyclohex-4-ene-1,2-dicarboxylate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 2-(1,3-dithiolan-2-ylidene) propanedioate; bis (prop-2-enyl) oxirane-2,3-dicarboxylate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 4,4-dicyanoheptanedioate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 2-oxobutanedioate; bis (prop-2-enyl) 2-ethyl-3-oxobutanedioate; prop-2-enyl 2-prop-2-enoxycarbonyloxypropanoate; prop-2-enyl 2-prop-2-enoxycarbonyloxyprop-2-enoate; prop-2-enyl 2-(prop-2-enoxymethoxy) propanoate; and triallyl 3,3′,3″-(2,4,6-trioxo-1,3,5-triazinane-1,3,5-triyl) tripropanoate.
