Abstract

A valved conduit includes a conduit having and an exterior surface and an interior surface defining a lumen, the conduit having formed therein a first slit covering a circumferential segment of the conduit, and a first leaflet including a first base portion attached to the exterior surface of the conduit and a first edge portion passing through the first slit and disposed at least partially within the lumen of the conduit.

Claims (46)

1 . A valved conduit comprising:

a conduit having and an exterior surface and an interior surface defining a lumen, the conduit having formed therein a first slit covering a circumferential segment of the conduit; and

a first leaflet including a first base portion attached to the exterior surface of the conduit and a first edge portion passing through the first slit and disposed at least partially within the lumen of the conduit.

2 . The valved conduit of claim 1 , further comprising:

a second slit formed in the conduit that is circumferentially offset relative to the first slit; and

a second leaflet including a second base portion attached to the exterior surface of the conduit and a second edge portion passing through the second slit and disposed at least partially within the lumen of the conduit.

3 . The valved conduit of claim 2 , wherein the first and second slits are separated by a circumferential gap.

4 . The valved conduit of claim 2 , wherein, within the lumen, a lateral space is present between the first and second leaflets at the interior surface of the conduit.

5 . The valved conduit of claim 2 , wherein a lateral connector slit connects the first and second slits.

6 . The valved conduit of claim 5 , wherein the conduit is separable into two pieces along the first slit, the second slit, and the lateral connector slit.

7 . The valved conduit of claim 1 , wherein the first base portion is attached to the exterior surface of the conduit by one or more sutures that do not penetrate the interior surface of the conduit.

8 . The valved conduit of claim 1 , wherein the first base portion is attached to the exterior surface of the conduit by an adhesive film disposed on an outer surface of the first base portion.

9 . The valved conduit of claim 8 , further comprising a support frame disposed radially outside of the adhesive film, the support frame being secured to at least one of the adhesive film or the conduit by one or more layers of flexible film.

10 . The valved conduit of claim 1 , wherein:

the conduit includes an axial medial segment that is denser than axial end segments of the conduit; and

the first slit and the first edge portion are disposed within bounds of the axial medial segment.

11 . The valved conduit of claim 1 , wherein:

the first leaflet comprises a plurality of tabs; and

the first base portion comprises at least one of the plurality of tabs.

12 . The valved conduit of claim 11 , wherein alternating ones of the plurality of tabs are disposed against the exterior surface and the interior surface, respectively.

13 . A valved conduit comprising:

a tubular conduit having and an outer surface and an inner surface defining a lumen;

a first curved opening formed in the tubular conduit; and

a first leaflet that passes through the first curved opening, the first leaflet including a first outer portion attached to the outer surface of the tubular conduit and a first inner portion disposed at least partially within the lumen of the tubular conduit.

14 . The valved conduit of claim 13 , further comprising:

a second curved opening formed in the tubular conduit that covers a separate circumferential segment from the first curved opening; and

a second leaflet that passes through the second curved opening, the second leaflet including a second outer portion attached to the outer surface of the tubular conduit and a second inner portion passing through the second curved opening and disposed at least partially within the lumen of the tubular conduit;

wherein the first and second curved openings are separated by a circumferential gap.

15 . The valved conduit of claim 14 , wherein:

a straight connector opening connects the first and second curved openings; and

the tubular conduit is separable into two pieces along the first curved opening, the second curved opening, and the straight connector opening.

16 . The valved conduit of claim 13 , wherein the first outer portion is attached to the outer surface of the tubular conduit by at least one of: a suture that do not penetrate the inner surface of the tubular conduit, or an adhesive layer.

17 . The valved conduit of claim 13 , further comprising:

an adhesive film that covers at least a portion of the first outer portion of the first leaflet, the first curved opening, and the outer surface of the tubular conduit;

a support frame disposed radially outside of the adhesive film; and

one or more layers of flexible film coupling the support frame to the valved conduit.

18 . The valved conduit of claim 13 , wherein:

the tubular conduit includes an axial medial segment that is denser than axial end segments of the tubular conduit; and

the first curved opening and the first outer portion are disposed within bounds of the axial medial segment.

19 . The valved conduit of claim 13 , wherein:

the first leaflet comprises a plurality of base tabs;

the first outer portion comprises at least one of the plurality of base tabs; and

adjacent pairs of the plurality of base tabs are folded in different directions.

20 . A valved conduit comprising:

a conduit having and an exterior surface and an interior surface defining a lumen, the conduit having formed therein a slit covering a circumferential segment of the conduit; and

a valve means that passes through the slit and includes a base portion attached to the exterior surface of the conduit and an edge portion disposed at least partially within the lumen of the conduit.
