Abstract

Systems and methods for mapping IP addresses to an entity include receiving at least one domain name associated with the entity. Embodiments may further include determining one or more variations of the at least one domain name based on analysis of domain name data collected from a plurality of domain name data sources that mention a variation of the at least one domain name. Some embodiments may also include identifying one or more IP addresses pointed to by the one or more variations of the entity's domain name based on analysis of IP address data collected from a plurality of IP address data sources. Additional embodiments include assigning weights to each of the identified one or more IP addresses and creating a mapping of IP addresses to associate with the entity based on analysis of the weighted one or more IP addresses.

Claims (53)

1. A method for mapping Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to an entity, the method comprising:

obtaining, by one or more processors, an indication of one or more variations of at least one domain name;

obtaining, by the one or more processors, an indication of one or more IP addresses pointed to by the one or more variations of the at least one domain name; and

assigning, by the one or more processors:

a first weight to a first IP address, of the one or more IP addresses, pointed to by a first number of the one or more variations of the at least one domain name, and

a second weight that is different from the first weight to a second IP address, of the one or more IP addresses, pointed to by a second number of the one or more variations of the at least one domain name that is different from the first number.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by the one or more processors, the one or more variations of the at least one domain name;

identifying, by the one or more processors, the one or more IP addresses pointed to by the one or more variations of the at least one domain name based on analysis of the IP address data; or

a combination thereof.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

assigning, by the one or more processors, a third weight to a third IP address of the one or more IP addresses based on a reliability of a variation of the at least one domain name that points to the third IP address.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

mapping, by the one or more processors, a set of one or more IP addresses to the entity based on weights assigned to the set of one or more IP addresses.

5. The method of claim 4 , where:

the set of one or more IP addresses includes the first IP address based on the first weight being greater than a threshold, and

the set of one or more IP addresses does not include the second IP address based on the second weight being less than the threshold.

6. The method of claim 4 , further comprising: adjusting, by the one or more processors, the mapping of the set of one or more IP addresses based on user input.

7. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

adjusting, by the one or more processors, the mapping by periodically obtaining additional domain name data and additional IP address data and periodically assigning additional weights to additional IP addresses based on the additional domain name data and the additional IP address data.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

associating, by the one or more processors, IP addresses with one or more networks that do not include the entity based on a detection of the IP addresses not having access to data internal to the entity.

9. The method of claim 8 , where the one or more networks that do not include the entity comprise at least one of a Wi-Fi network, a third party hosting network, a guest network, or a security network.

10. An apparatus for mapping Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to an entity, the apparatus comprising:

a memory;

one or more processors coupled to the memory, the one or more processors configured to:

obtain an indication of one or more variations of at least one domain name;

obtain an indication of one or more IP addresses pointed to by the one or more variations of the at least one domain name;

assign a first weight to a first IP address, of the one or more IP addresses, pointed to by a first number of the one or more variations of the at least one domain name; and

assign a second weight that is different from the first weight to a second IP address, of the one or more IP addresses, pointed to by a second number of the one or more variations of the at least one domain name that is different from the first number.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , where the one or more processors are further configured to:

map a set of one or more IP addresses to the entity based on weights assigned to the set of one or more IP addresses.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , where:

the set of one or more IP addresses includes the first IP address based on the first weight being greater than a threshold, and

the set of one or more IP addresses does not include the second IP address based on the second weight being less than the threshold.

13. The apparatus of claim 11 , where the one or more processors are further configured to: adjust the mapping of the set of one or more IP addresses based on user input.

14. The apparatus of claim 11 , where the one or more processors are further configured to:

adjust the mapping by periodically obtaining additional domain name data and additional IP address data and periodically assigning additional weights to additional IP addresses based on the additional domain name data and the additional IP address data.

15. The apparatus of claim 10 , where the one or more processors are further configured to:

assign a third weight to a third IP address of the one or more IP addresses based on a reliability of a variation of the at least one domain name that points to the third IP address.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations for mapping Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to an entity, the operations comprising:

obtaining an indication of one or more variations of at least one domain name;

obtaining an indication of one or more IP addresses pointed to by the one or more variations of the at least one domain name;

assigning a first weight to a first IP address, of the one or more IP addresses, pointed to by a first number of the one or more variations of the at least one domain name; and

assigning a second weight that is different from the first weight to a second IP address, of the one or more IP addresses, pointed to by a second number of the one or more variations of the at least one domain name that is different from the first number.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , where the domain name data is collected from a plurality of domain name data sources.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , where the IP address data is collected from a plurality of IP address data sources.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , where the operations further comprise:

determining, by the one or more processors, the one or more variations of the at least one domain name based on analysis of the domain name data;

identifying, by the one or more processors, the one or more IP addresses pointed to by the one or more variations of the at least one domain name based on analysis of the IP address data; or

a combination thereof.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , where the operations further comprise:

associating, by the one or more processors, IP addresses with one or more networks that do not include the entity based on a detection of the IP addresses not having access to data internal to the entity.
