Abstract

A heart valve repair device, comprising an atrial-fixation member having an expandable mesh configured to have oval or circular shape in a deployed configuration, the atrial-fixation member defining a central lumen; and a baffle extending from a portion of the atrial-fixation member, the baffle having an anterior portion with a smooth, atraumatic surface configured to coapt with at least a portion of one or more native leaflets of a native heart valve, a posterior portion configured to engage and displace at least a portion of another native leaflet of the native heart valve, wherein the baffle extends radially inward from the atrial-fixation member into the central lumen to approximate a closed position of the displaced native leaflet.

71 . A method of repairing a native heart valve of a heart, the method comprising:

delivering a distal portion of a catheter with a heart valve repair device to the native heart valve, wherein the heart valve repair device comprises an atrial-fixation member and a baffle extending from the atrial-fixation member, and wherein the baffle encloses a hollow volume;

unsheathing the heart valve repair device from the catheter such that the heart valve repair device expands from a delivery state to an expanded state; and

implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve such that—

a posterior portion of the baffle displaces at least a portion of a first native valve leaflet of the native heart valve, and

an anterior portion of the baffle is positioned to coapt with at least a portion of one or more second native valve leaflets of the native heart valve.

72 . The method of claim 71 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve further comprises positioning the atrial-fixation member to engage an atrial wall of the heart upstream of an annulus of the native heart valve.

The method of claim 71 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve further comprises positioning the atrial-fixation member to engage an atrial wall of the heart upstream of an annulus of the native heart valve, wherein the atrial-fixation member only partially spans circumferentially about a portion of the atrial wall.

74 . The method of claim 71 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve further comprises positioning the atrial-fixation member to engage an atrial wall of the heart upstream of an annulus of the native heart valve, wherein the atrial-fixation member only partially spans circumferentially about an anterior portion of the atrial wall.

75 . The method of claim 71 wherein:

delivering the heart valve repair device to the native heart valve comprises delivering the heart valve repair device to a native mitral valve; and

implanting the heart valve repair device at the native mitral valve comprises positioning—

the posterior portion of the baffle to displace a first portion of a native posterior valve leaflet of the native mitral valve while leaving a remaining second portion of the native posterior valve leaflet mobile, and

the anterior portion of the baffle to coapt with at least a portion of a native posterior anterior leaflet of the native mitral valve.

76 . The method of claim 75 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native mitral valve comprises positioning the posterior portion of the baffle to displace a first scallop of the native posterior valve leaflet of the native mitral valve while leaving a second scallop and a third scallop of the native posterior valve leaflet mobile, wherein the first scallop is positioned between the second scallop and the third scallop.

77 . The method of claim 71 wherein delivering the heart valve repair device to the native heart valve comprises delivering the heart valve repair device along a trans-septal approach to the native heart valve.

78 . The method of claim 71 wherein unsheathing the heart valve repair device comprises permitting the heart valve repair device to self-expand from the delivery state to the expanded state.

79 . The method of claim 71 wherein unsheathing the heart valve repair device comprises unsheathing at least a portion of the heart valve repair device in an atrium of the heart upstream of the native heart valve.

80 . The method of claim 71 wherein the method further comprises:

rotationally aligning the heart valve repair device with the native heart valve within the atrium; and

advancing the heart valve repair device at least partially into an annulus of the native heart valve before expanding the heart valve repair device and implanting the heart valve repair device.

81 . The method of claim 71 wherein unsheathing the heart valve repair device from the catheter comprises unsheathing the baffle before unsheathing the atrial-fixation member.

82 . The method of claim 71 wherein the method further comprises uncinching at least one suture coupled to the atrial-fixation member to permit the atrial-fixation member to self expand.

83 . The method of claim 71 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve comprises positioning the posterior portion of the baffle to displace a first portion of the first native valve leaflet of the native heart valve while leaving a remaining second portion of the first native valve leaflet mobile.

84 . A method of repairing a native heart valve of a heart, the method comprising:

delivering a distal portion of a catheter with a heart valve repair device to the native heart valve, wherein the heart valve repair device comprises an atrial-fixation member and a baffle extending from the atrial-fixation member, and wherein the baffle comprises a plurality of anterior struts and a plurality of posterior struts with gaps interposed between adjacent ones of the anterior and posterior struts;

unsheathing the heart valve repair device from the catheter such that the heart valve repair device expands from a delivery state to an expanded state; and

implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve such that-a posterior portion of the baffle displaces at least a portion of a first native valve leaflet of the native heart valve, and

an anterior portion of the baffle is positioned to coapt with at least a portion of one or more second native valve leaflets of the native heart valve.

85 . The method of claim 84 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve further comprises positioning the atrial-fixation member to engage an atrial wall of the heart upstream of an annulus of the native heart valve.

86 . The method of claim 84 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve further comprises positioning the atrial-fixation member to engage an atrial wall of the heart upstream of an annulus of the native heart valve.

87 . The method of claim 84 wherein:

delivering the heart valve repair device to the native heart valve comprises delivering the heart valve repair device to a native mitral valve; and

implanting the heart valve repair device at the native mitral valve comprises positioning—

the posterior portion of the baffle to displace a first portion of a native posterior valve leaflet of the native mitral valve while leaving a remaining second portion of the native posterior valve leaflet mobile, and

the anterior portion of the baffle to coapt with at least a portion of a native posterior anterior leaflet of the native mitral valve.

88 . The method of claim 84 wherein delivering the heart valve repair device to the native heart valve comprises delivering the heart valve repair device along a trans-septal approach to the native heart valve.

89 . The method of claim 84 wherein unsheathing the heart valve repair device comprises unsheathing at least a portion of the heart valve repair device in an atrium of the heart upstream of the native heart valve.

90 . The method of claim 84 wherein the method further comprises:

rotationally aligning the heart valve repair device with the native heart valve within the atrium; and

advancing the heart valve repair device at least partially into an annulus of the native heart valve before expanding the heart valve repair device and implanting the heart valve repair device.

91 . The method of claim 84 wherein unsheathing the heart valve repair device from the catheter comprises unsheathing the baffle before unsheathing the atrial-fixation member.

92 . The method of claim 84 wherein implanting the heart valve repair device at the native heart valve comprises positioning the posterior portion of the baffle to displace a first portion of the first native valve leaflet of the native heart valve while leaving a remaining second portion of the first native valve leaflet mobile.
