METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR PERFORMING A POSTERIOR CAPSULOTOMY AND FOR LASER EYE SURGERY WITH A PENETRATED CORNEA
Method and apparatus for performing a laser-assisted posterior capsulotomy and for performing laser eye surgery on an eye having a penetrated cornea are provided. A method for performing a posterior capsulotomy includes injecting fluid between the lens posterior capsule and the anterior hyaloids membrane to separate the lens posterior capsule and the anterior hyaloids membrane. With the lens posterior capsule separated from the anterior hyaloids membrane, a posterior capsulotomy is performed on the lens posterior capsule by using a laser to incise the lens posterior capsule.

12 . A method for performing laser eye surgery on an eye having a cornea, the method comprising:
coupling an eye having a penetration through the cornea to a laser surgery system by using a liquid interface disposed between the cornea and the laser surgery system; and
forming one or more incisions in the eye by using the laser surgery system to transmit light through the liquid interface.
13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising forming the penetration through the cornea.
14 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising inserting an iris expanding device through the penetration in the cornea.

29 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the one or more incisions in the eye include an anterior capsulotomy, a posterior capsulotomy, or one or more lens fragmentation incisions.
30 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the coupling of the eye to the laser surgery system by using the liquid interface includes:
coupling a liquid containment member of the liquid interface to a sclera of the eye away from a limbus of the eye via suction; and
providing a liquid in a reservoir formed by a combination of the eye and the liquid containment member, wherein the liquid is exposed to a surrounding ambient pressure.
31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the liquid interface further includes a disposable lens that is offset from the eye, and wherein the liquid is disposed between the disposable lens and the cornea of the eye and the liquid is in contact with both a posterior surface of the disposable lens and an anterior surface of the cornea of the eye.
32 . A liquid interface configured to be disposed between a cornea of an eye and a laser surgery system, the liquid interface comprising:
a liquid containment member configured to be coupled to a sclera of the eye away from a limbus of the eye via suction; and
a disposable lens that is offset from the eye when the liquid containment member is coupled to the eye.
