Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on a computer-readable storage medium for estimating the shape, size, and mass of fish are described. A pair of stereo cameras may be utilized to obtain right and left images of fish in a defined area. The right and left images may be processed, enhanced, and combined. Object detection may be used to detect and track a fish in images. A pose estimator may be used to determine key points and features of the detected fish. Based on the key points, a three-dimensional (3-D) model of the fish is generated that provides an estimate of the size and shape of the fish. A regression model or neural network model can be applied to the 3-D model to determine a likely weight of the fish.

19 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

obtaining one or more images of a fish;

determining one or more features of the one or more images of the fish;

determining that the one or more features of the one or more images of the fish do not satisfy criteria associated with performing additional processing of the one or more images to estimate a health or biomass of the fish; and

in response to determining that the one or more features of the one or more images of the fish do not satisfy criteria associated with performing the additional processing of the one or more images to estimate the health or biomass of the fish, bypassing performing the additional processing of the one or more images to estimate the health or biomass of the fish.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include elevation angle criteria.

21 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include fish pose criteria.

22 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include flatness criteria.

23 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include perpendicularity criteria.

24 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include occlusion criteria.

25 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include distance criteria.

26 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include fish track criteria.

27 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the criteria include three dimensional model criteria.

28 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media that store instructions which, when executed, cause one or more computer processors to perform operations comprising:

obtaining one or more images of a fish;

determining one or more features of the one or more images of the fish;

determining that the one or more features of the one or more images of the fish do not satisfy criteria associated with performing additional processing of the one or more images to estimate a health or biomass of the fish; and

in response to determining that the one or more features of the one or more images of the fish do not satisfy criteria associated with performing the additional processing of the one or more images to estimate the health or biomass of the fish, bypassing performing the additional processing of the one or more images to estimate the health or biomass of the fish.

29 . The media of claim 28 , wherein the criteria include elevation angle criteria.

31 . The media of claim 28 , wherein the criteria include flatness criteria.

37 . A system comprising:

one or more computers; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media that store instructions which, when executed, cause the one or more computer processors to perform operations comprising:

obtaining one or more images of a fish;

determining one or more features of the one or more images of the fish;

determining that the one or more features of the one or more images of the fish do not satisfy criteria associated with performing additional processing of the one or more images to estimate a health or biomass of the fish; and

in response to determining that the one or more features of the one or more images of the fish do not satisfy criteria associated with performing the additional processing of the one or more images to estimate the health or biomass of the fish, bypassing performing the additional processing of the one or more images to estimate the health or biomass of the fish.

38 . The system of claim 37 , wherein the criteria include elevation angle criteria.
