Abstract

Provided herein are imaging devices and methods of use thereof, the imaging devices comprising at least one illumination port configured to output light for illuminating a target; an imaging sensor assembly configured to detect light traveling to the imaging sensor assembly; and at least one drape sensor configured to detect a drape mounted to the device.

Claims (31)

1 . An imaging device comprising:

at least one illumination port configured to output light for illuminating a target;

an imaging sensor assembly configured to detect light traveling to the imaging sensor assembly; and

at least one drape sensor configured to detect a drape mounted to the device.

2 . The imaging device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one drape sensor is configured to detect a lens of the drape mounted to the device.

3 . The imaging device of claim 1 , comprising at least one light emitter for emitting light for detection by the at least one drape sensor.

4 . The imaging device of claim 3 , wherein the at least one drape sensor is configured to detect light emitted from the at least one light emitter after reflection of the emitted light off at least one reflector on the drape.

5 . The imaging device of claim 4 , wherein the at least one reflector comprises a prism.

6 . The imaging device of claim 3 , wherein the at least one light emitter comprises at least one infrared light emitter, and the at least one drape sensor is configured to detect infrared light reflected by the drape.

7 . The imaging device of claim 3 , wherein the imaging device comprises a single light emitter and a single drape sensor configured to detect light emitted from the single light emitter.

8 . The imaging device of claim 3 , wherein the at least one light emitter is positioned adjacent the at least one drape sensor.

9 . The imaging device of claim 1 , comprising a housing to which a frame of the drape mounts.

10 . The imaging device of claim 9 , wherein the at least one drape sensor is located on a planar portion of the housing that comprises the at least one illumination port and an imaging port configured to receive the light traveling to the imaging sensor assembly.

11 . The imaging device of claim 1 , wherein the imaging device is an open-field handheld imager usable outside of the body during a medical procedure.

12 . The imaging device of claim 1 , comprising a control system configured to adjust at least one parameter associated with imaging by the imaging device based on detection of the drape by the at least one drape sensor.

13 . The imaging device of claim 12 , wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one parameter of the light output by the at least one illumination port.

14 . The imaging device of claim 13 , wherein the at least one parameter of the light comprises at least one of illumination timing and illumination power.

15 . The imaging device of claim 12 , wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one image acquisition parameter.

16 . The imaging device of claim 15 , wherein the at least one image acquisition parameter comprises at least one of exposure and a signal gain of the imaging sensor assembly.

17 . The imaging device of claim 12 , wherein the control system is configured to automatically adjust image processing performed by an image processor of the imaging device based on the detection of the drape by the at least one drape sensor.

18 . The imaging device of claim 12 , wherein the control system is configured to correct for at least one of distortion and attenuation based on the detection of the drape by the at least one drape sensor.

19 . A method for medical imaging, comprising:

draping an imaging device with a drape;

detecting the drape by at least one drape sensor of the imaging device; and

generating at least one image by the imaging device draped by the drape.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein detecting the drape comprises detecting a lens of the drape.

21 . The method of claim 19 , wherein detecting the drape comprises detecting light emitted from at least one light emitter of the imaging device that is reflected off the drape.

22 . The method of claim 19 , comprising adjusting, by a control system associated with the imaging device, at least one parameter associated with generating the at least one image based on the detection of the drape by the at least one drape sensor.

23 . The method of claim 22 , comprising automatically adjusting, by the control system, the generating of the at least one image by an image processor based on the detection of the drape by the at least one drape sensor.

24 . The method of claim 19 , wherein generating the at least one image comprises correcting for at least one of distortion and attenuation based on the detection of the drape by the at least one drape sensor.

25 . The method of claim 19 , comprising adjusting, by a control system associated with the imaging device, illumination by an illuminator of the imaging device based on the detection of the drape by the at least one drape sensor.
