Abstract

An integrated electrical management system includes an electrical panel, at least one busbar mounted to the electrical panel, at least one controllable breaker electrically coupled to the at least one busbar, and processing equipment configured to process electrical signals. The processing equipment includes control circuitry configured to control the at least one controllable breaker, and one or more current sensing modules configured to sense a respective current for each of the at least one controllable breakers. The system senses currents or otherwise electrical load in branch circuit, and is configured to control the breakers on or off to control electrical load in each branch circuit. The system may receive user input, input from devices, input from other systems or network entities, or inputs from sensors, and in response determines operating parameters. Operating parameters may include on-off schedules for breakers, temporal information, fault information, or other suitable operating parameters.

Claims (36)

1. An electrical panel comprising:

a main service breaker terminal configured to receive a main service breaker;

at least one busbar coupled to a plurality of branch circuits;

a plurality of controllable relays electrically coupled to respective branch circuits of the plurality of branch circuits;

a plurality of breaker terminals electrically coupled to respective controllable relays of the plurality of controllable relays, wherein each of the plurality of breaker terminals is configured to independently trip a respective breaker;

a plurality of current sensors, each comprising a respective transducer for generating respective sensor signals indicative of currents in respective branch circuits of the plurality of branch circuit;

a current measurement shunt attached between the main service breaker terminal and a busbar of the at least one busbar; and

control circuitry coupled to the main service breaker terminal and to the plurality of controllable relays, wherein the control circuitry is to control the plurality of controllable relays based on at least one of the respective sensor signals or on a current flowing through the current measurement shunt.

2. The electrical panel of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is further to control the main service breaker based on the current flowing through the current measurement shunt.

3. The electrical panel of claim 1 , wherein each respective transducer comprises a current transformer.

4. The electrical panel of claim 1 , further comprising a current sensor board, wherein the current sensor board comprises the plurality of current sensors.

5. The electrical panel of claim 4 , wherein the current sensor board is arranged such that the plurality of current sensors are arranged over the plurality of breaker terminals.

6. The electrical panel of claim 1 , further comprising an automated transfer relay configured to connect or disconnect the electrical panel to a grid.

7. The electrical panel of claim 6 , wherein the automated transfer relay is further configured to transition from grid power to local power without interrupting power flow to loads connected to the plurality of branch circuits.

8. The electrical panel of claim 1 , further comprising power electronics to interface between loads coupled to the plurality of branch circuits and power generation.

9. The electrical panel of claim 8 , wherein the power electronics comprises a bidirectional AC-DC converter.

10. The electrical panel of claim 1 , further comprising communications circuitry to communicate with a remote device, wherein the control circuitry is further to control the plurality of controllable relays based on an input from the remote device.

11. A method of managing an electrical panel, the electrical panel comprising:

a main service breaker terminal configured to receive a main service breaker;

at least one busbar coupled to a plurality of branch circuits;

a plurality of controllable relays electrically coupled to respective branch circuits of the plurality of branch circuits;

a plurality of breaker terminals electrically coupled to respective controllable relays of the plurality of controllable relays, wherein each of the plurality of breaker terminals is configured to independently trip a respective breaker;

a plurality of current sensors, each comprising a respective transducer;

a current measurement shunt attached between the main service breaker terminal and a busbar of the at least one busbar; and

control circuitry coupled to the main service breaker terminal and to the plurality of controllable relays; the method comprising:

generating, using the plurality of current sensors, respective sensor signals indicative of currents in respective branch circuits of the plurality of branch circuit; and

controlling, using the control circuitry, the plurality of controllable relays based on at least one of the respective sensor signals or on a current flowing through the current measurement shunt.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising controlling the main service breaker based on the current flowing through the current measurement shunt.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein each respective transducer comprises a current transformer, and generating the respective sensor signals comprises generating the respective sensor signals using the current transformers.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the electrical panel further comprises a current sensor board, wherein the current sensor board comprises the plurality of current sensors.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the current sensor board is arranged such that the plurality of current sensors are arranged over the plurality of breaker terminals.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the electrical panel further comprises an automated transfer relay, the method further comprising connecting or disconnecting the electrical panel to a grid using the automated transfer relay.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein connecting or disconnecting the electrical panel to the grid comprises transitioning from grid power to local power without interrupting power flow to loads coupled to the plurality of branch circuits.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the electrical panel further comprises power electronics to interface between loads coupled to the plurality of branch circuits and power generation.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the power electronics comprises a bidirectional AC-DC converter.

20. The method of claim 11 , wherein the electrical panel further comprises communications circuitry to communicate with a remote device, the method further comprising controlling the plurality of controllable relays based on an input from the remote device.
