Abstract

One example of the present disclosure can include a server that can determine transport routes for individual objects based on rules. The transport routes can include an intermediary at which the individual objects are to be consolidated into a single container. The server can also receiving a request from a client computer for an object label corresponding to one of the individual objects. In response to receiving the request, the server can determine the intermediary based on a transport route for the object, generate the object label based on the intermediary, and transmit the object label to the client computer for causing the object label to be printed with a printer and coupled to the object.

Claims (40)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at a deconsolidation location, a plurality of objects being transported in a single container from at least one source to at least one destination;

identifying, at the deconsolidation location, a plurality of object labels coupled to the plurality of objects;

deconsolidating, at the deconsolidation location, the plurality of objects from the single container into two or more containers based on the plurality of object labels;

operating, at the deconsolidation location, a client computer to request container labels for the two or more containers from a server;

receiving, at the deconsolidation location, the container labels from the server at the client computer;

operating, at the deconsolidation location, the client computer to print the container labels using a printer, thereby generating printed container labels;

coupling, at the deconsolidation location, the printed container labels to exteriors of the two or more containers; and

depositing, at the deconsolidation location, the two or more containers with one or more carriers for transport to their respective destinations.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the container labels include a first container label indicating a first destination for a first container of the two or more containers, and wherein the container labels include a second container label indicating a second destination for a second container of the two or more containers.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the object labels indicate a first destination of a first object of the plurality of objects, and wherein the object labels indicate a second destination of a second object of the plurality of objects.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of object labels are coupled to the plurality of objects at the at least one source.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of objects are packaged into the single container at an intermediary location, the intermediary location being positioned along a transport route from the at least one source to the at least one destination.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein an object label for an object of the plurality of objects indicates at least two intermediary hops along a transport route from the at least one source to the at least one destination, wherein the at least two intermediary hops include the deconsolidation location.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the single container is a single package.

8. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory including instructions that are executable by the processor for causing the processor to perform operations including:

determining a transport route for an object from a source to a destination, the transport route including a deconsolidation location at which a plurality of objects are to be deconsolidated from a single container into at least two containers, the plurality of objects including the object;

receiving a request from a client computer via an interface for a label corresponding to the object; and

in response to receiving the request:

generating an object label, the object label being a digital label that includes a unique identifier of the deconsolidation location; and

transmitting the object label to the client computer via the interface for causing the object label to be printed with a printer as a physical label and coupled to the object.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the operations further involve determining the transport route based on a set of rules received from another client computer.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the operations further involve determining the deconsolidation location based on the transport route for the object.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the object label indicates a first destination of the object along the transport route.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of objects are packaged into the single container at an intermediary location, the intermediary location being positioned along the transport route from the source to the destination.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the object label for the object indicates at least two intermediary hops along the transport route from the source to the destination, wherein the at least two intermediary hops include the deconsolidation location.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the single container is a single package.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program code that is executable by a processor for causing the processor to perform operations including:

determining a transport route for an object from a source to a destination, the transport route including a deconsolidation location at which a plurality of objects are to be deconsolidated from a single container into at least two containers, the plurality of objects including the object;

receiving a request from a client computer via an interface for a label corresponding to the object; and

in response to receiving the request:

generating an object label, the object label being a digital label that includes a unique identifier of the deconsolidation location; and

transmitting the object label to the client computer via the interface for causing the object label to be printed with a printer as a physical label and coupled to the object.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further involve determining the transport route based on a set of rules received from another client computer.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further involve determining the deconsolidation location based on the transport route for the object.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the object label indicates a first destination of the object along the transport route.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of objects are packaged into the single container at an intermediary location, the intermediary location being positioned along the transport route from the source to the destination.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the object label for the object indicates at least two intermediary hops along the transport route from the source to the destination, wherein the at least two intermediary hops include the deconsolidation location.
