Abstract

A fan having a base, a plate operatively attached to the base, a fan head housing, and a support arm is disclosed. The plate oscillates relative to the base by an oscillating mechanism. The fan head housing includes a blower assembly with a motor that rotates a blade to produce an air stream. The support arm has a first end pivotally attached to the fan head housing and a second end fixedly attached to the plate. The fan head housing is cantilevered by the support arm. This fan configuration allows for improved airflow direction, enhanced portability and reduced noise.

Claims (31)

1 . A fan comprising:

a base;

a plate operatively attached to the base, where the plate oscillates relative to the base by an oscillating mechanism;

a fan head housing, where the fan head housing comprises a blower assembly having at least a first motor for rotating at least one blade for producing an air stream; and

a support arm having a first end and a second end, where the first end of support arm is pivotally attached to the fan head housing and the second end of the support arm is fixedly attached to the plate.

2 . The fan of claim 1 , where the fan head housing is cantilevered by the support arm.

3 . The fan of claim 1 , where the fan head housing pivots relative to the support arm along a vertical y-axis of the fan and oscillates relative to the base along a horizontal x-axis of the fan.

4 . The fan of claim 1 , where the plate is positioned within an interior space of the base.

5 . The fan of claim 1 , where the oscillating mechanism comprises of a second motor, a drive gear driven by the second motor, and a rack gear that engages with the drive gear, where the second motor and drive gear are attached to the plate and the rack gear is attached to the base.

6 . The fan of claim 5 , where the rack gear is curved and has an arc.

7 . The fan of claim 6 , where the rotational movement of the drive gear moves the drive gear in a curvilinear translation along the arc of the rack gear.

8 . The fan of claim 1 , where a remote controller for controlling a speed of the first motor is removably attached to the fan via a ferromagnetic material.

9 . A fan comprising:

a base;

a fan head housing, where the fan head housing comprises a blower assembly having at least one motor for rotating at least one blade for producing an air stream; and

a support arm having a first end and a second end, where the first end of the support arm is pivotally attached to the fan head housing and the second end of the support arm is attached to the base, where the fan head housing is cantilevered by the support arm, and where the fan head housing pivots relative to the support arm along a vertical y-axis of the fan.

10 . The fan of claim 1 , where an angle of the fan head housing along the vertical y-axis of the fan can be pivotally adjusted relative to the support arm.

11 . The fan of claim 1 , where the base comprises of a plate that rotates relative to the base, and where the second end of the support arm is attached to the plate.

12 . The fan of claim 11 , where the base rotates between 0 degrees and 90 degrees.

13 . The fan of claim 11 , where the base rotates between 0 degrees and 180 degrees.

14 . The fan of claim 11 , where the base and plate are concentric.

15 . The fan of claim 14 , where the circumference of the base extends further than the circumference of the plate.

16 . A fan comprising:

a base;

a plate operatively attached to the base, where the plate oscillates relative to the base by an oscillating mechanism;

a fan head housing, where the fan head housing comprises a blower assembly having at least a first motor for rotating at least one blade for producing an air stream; and

a support arm having a first end and a second end, where the first end of support arm is attached to the fan head housing and the second end of the support arm is attached to the plate, and where the fan head housing is cantilevered by the support arm.

17 . The fan of claim 16 , where the fan head housing oscillates relative to the base along a horizontal x-axis of the fan.

18 . The fan of claim 16 , where the oscillating mechanism comprises of a second motor, a drive gear driven by the second motor, and a curved rack gear that engages with the drive gear, where the second motor and drive gear are attached to the plate and the curved rack gear is attached to the base, and where the second motor moves the drive gear in a curvilinear translation back and forth along an arc of the curved rack gear.

19 . The fan of claim 18 , where the fan includes a first controller positioned on the fan for controlling the first and second motor.

20 . The fan of claim 19 , where the fan includes a second controller for controlling the first and second motor, where the second controller is removably attached to the fan.
