Abstract

An end-effector of a programmable motion device is disclosed. The end-effector includes a body that provides an open interior, the open interior being coupled to a vacuum source, and the body including a contact surface for contacting an object to be grasped by the end effector. The contact surface is at least partially defining an aperture, and the body includes a flexible portion that permits at least a portion of the contact surface to be drawn at least partially into the open interior of the body when a flow of air drawn by the vacuum source through the aperture is reduced due to the aperture being at least partially blocked.

Claims (27)

1 .- 31 . (canceled)

32 . A programmable motion device including an end-effector comprising:

a first generally dome-shaped outer wall that includes an opening therein at a vacuum connection portion that is coupled to a vacuum source; and

a second generally annular shaped inner wall that is coupled to the first generally dome-shaped outer wall at an outer periphery of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall at a flexible portion, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall including a contact surface at an inner periphery of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall also including an outer-facing surface that is adapted to move with respect to the flexible portion to engage an object contacted by the contact surface under a vacuum force provided by the vacuum source.

33 . The programmable motion device of claim 32 , wherein the programmable motion device includes an articulated arm to which the end-effector is attached.

34 . The programmable motion device of claim 33 , wherein the end-effector is coupled to the programmable motion device at the connection portion.

35 . The programmable motion device of claim 32 , wherein the first generally dome-shaped outer wall, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall, and the flexible portion are all integrally formed as a flexible end-effector body.

36 . The programmable motion device of claim 32 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is circular.

37 . The programmable motion device of claim 32 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is elongated.

38 . The programmable motion device of claim 32 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is triangular.

39 . A programmable motion device including an end-effector comprising:

a first generally dome-shaped outer wall that includes an opening therein at a vacuum connection portion that is coupled to a vacuum source; and

a second generally annular shaped inner wall that is coupled to the first generally dome-shaped outer wall at an outer periphery of the first generally dome-shaped outer wall at a flexible portion, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall including a contact surface at an inner periphery of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall also including an outer-facing surface that is adapted to move with respect to the flexible portion to engage an object contacted by the contact surface under a vacuum force provided by the vacuum source.

40 . The programmable motion device of claim 39 , wherein the programmable motion device includes an articulated arm to which the end-effector is attached.

41 . The programmable motion device of claim 40 , wherein the end-effector is coupled to the programmable motion device at the connection portion.

42 . The programmable motion device of claim 39 , wherein the first generally dome-shaped outer wall, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall, and the flexible portion are all integrally formed as a flexible end-effector body.

43 . The programmable motion device of claim 39 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is circular.

44 . The programmable motion device of claim 39 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is elongated.

45 . The programmable motion device of claim 39 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is triangular.

46 . An end-effector comprising:

a first generally dome-shaped outer wall that includes an opening therein at a connection portion thereof; and

a second generally annular shaped inner wall that is coupled to the first generally dome-shaped outer wall at an outer periphery of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall at a flexible portion, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall including a contact surface at an inner periphery of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall including an outer-facing surface that is adapted to move with respect to the flexible portion to engage an object when grasped at the contact surface.

47 . The end-effector of claim 46 , wherein the first generally dome-shaped outer wall, the second generally annular-shaped inner wall, and the flexible portion are all integrally formed as a flexible end-effector body.

48 . The end-effector of claim 46 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is circular.

49 . The end-effector of claim 46 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is elongated.

50 . The end-effector of claim 46 , wherein the contact surface of the second generally annular-shaped inner wall is triangular.

51 . A programmable motion device including the end-effector of claim 46 .
