Abstract

Delivery systems for expandable and stented implants include adjustable tensioning members that control the expansion of the implant along the length of the implant. The tensioning members are wound onto one or more rotors located on the distal segment of the delivery system, which are rotated to unwind the tensioning members and incrementally expand the implant. Positioning mechanisms are also provided to adjust the position and orientation of the implant during delivery.

Claims (27)

1 . A method, comprising:

navigating an expandable stent structure to a target location using a delivery catheter; and

actuating a rotor approximate the expandable stent structure at a distal section of the delivery catheter to unwind and extend a tensioning member from the delivery catheter to permit expansion of the expandable stent structure,

wherein the expandable stent structure includes an attachment line located around a circumference of the expandable stent structure and the tensioning member is coupled to the attachment line.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the tensioning member is looped around the attachment line to couple the tensioning member to the expandable stent structure.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the attachment line is wrapped around the circumference of the expandable stent structure more than once.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising releasing the expandable stent structure from the delivery catheter by decoupling the tensioning member from the attachment line and retracting the tensioning member.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein, after releasing the expandable stent structure, the attachment line is retained on the expandable stent structure.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising setting the expandable stent structure in a target pose using a steering assembly of the delivery catheter.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising setting the expandable stent structure in a target pose using a catheter extension assembly of the delivery catheter.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising withdrawing a catheter sheath to expose the expandable stent structure prior to actuating the rotor of the delivery catheter.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to navigating the expandable stent structure to the target location:

inserting the delivery catheter through the expandable stent structure while the expandable stent structure is in an expanded state;

looping an end of the tensioning member around the attachment line;

attaching the end of the tensioning member to the rotor;

collapsing the expandable stent structure onto the delivery catheter; and

rotating the rotor to wind the tensioning member onto the rotor.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the tensioning member is one of a plurality of tensioning members coupled to the attachment line.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein actuating the rotor unwinds and extends each of the plurality of tensioning members from the delivery catheter to permit expansion of the expandable stent structure.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the tensioning member is one of a plurality of tensioning members and the attachment line is one of a plurality of attachment lines, and each of the plurality of tensioning member is coupled to one of the plurality of attachment lines.

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the expandable stent structure is a heart valve implant.

14 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, before navigating the expandable stent structure to the target location, loading the expandable stent into the delivery catheter, wherein loading the expandable stent structure includes:

collapsing the expandable stent structure into a delivery configuration, and

winding the tensioning member about the rotor.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein loading the expandable stent structure further includes pulling at least a portion of the attachment line into a stator housing surrounding the rotor.

16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein loading the expandable stent structure further includes winding at least a portion of the attachment line around the rotor.

17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the attachment line is an attachment loop.
