Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure enable system(s) and method(s) for creating and deploying an electronic skill-based activity, including implementing a matchup tool to determine a projected performance score for participants in real-world events based at least in part on historical performance data of each participant. The matchup tool creates suggested matchups for inclusion in a skill-based game by selecting, for each suggested matchup, at least two components, formed from one or more participants, expected to produce substantially similar scores in the skill-based game based on the projected performance score of each participant. The matchup tool renders for display to a game operator the suggested matchups to enable the game operator to interactively select suggested matchups for inclusion within the skill-based game. The matchup tool transmits the selected matchup to presentation devices of users to enable the users to interactively select components as predicted winning components of the skill-based game.

Claims (46)

1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

determining that at least one skill-based game has been instantiated on at least one electronic device, the skill-based game being configured to allow selection of potential winners from a plurality of matchups in a game, wherein each of the plurality of matchups includes at least two components, associated with at least one participant in one or more real-world events, that are selected so as to produce outcomes that are generally equally weighted within the skill-based game, and wherein winners of the skill-based game are eligible to participate in a chance-based sweepstakes game;

receiving, from a selecting user, an indication of a selected winner for each of the plurality of matchups in the game;

determining that at least one of the real-world events associated with the matchups in the game has completed and that the selected winner was a winner according to the real-world events; and

based on the determination that the selected winner of the matchups was a winner, generating an entry in the chance-based sweepstakes game for the selecting user.

2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein each correctly selected winning matchup results in creation of an additional entry in the chance-based sweepstakes game.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of matchups comprises at least one of:

a matchup between two or more participants based on performance scores, or

a matchup between an over performance score option and an under performance score option for the at least one participant.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the determination that the real-world event resulted in the at least one matchup being a winner is based solely upon the selecting user's selections and not on the selections of other users.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the chance-based sweepstakes game is part of a promotion for a product or service.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the chance-based sweepstakes game is offered as part of a social electronic game.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein one or more winners for the chance-based sweepstakes game are selected from eligible winners of the skill-based game.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the winners of the skill-based game that are eligible to participate in the chance-based sweepstakes game are eligible to participate without a buy-in.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

randomly selecting a winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game from the generated entries; and

causing a user interface associated with the winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game to present an indication of the win.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , further comprising:

randomly selecting, from remaining entries that did not win initially, a consolation prize winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game from the remaining entries; and

causing a user interface associated with the consolation prize winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game to present an indication of the consolation prize win.

11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , further comprising establishing a receiving inbox to receive electronically mailed requests for entry as a potential consolation prize winner.

12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the matchups in the skill-based game comprise at least one of: over/unders, daily fantasy sports, individual player performance metrics, or team performance metrics.

13 . A system comprising:

at least one physical processor; and

physical memory comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the physical processor, cause the physical processor to:

determine that at least one skill-based game has been instantiated on at least one electronic device, the skill-based game being configured to allow selection of potential winners from a plurality of matchups in a game, wherein each of the plurality of matchups includes at least two components, associated with at least one participant in one or more real-world events, that are selected so as to produce outcomes that are generally equally weighted within the skill-based game, and wherein winners of the skill-based game are eligible to participate in a chance-based sweepstakes game;

receive, from a selecting user, an indication of a selected winner for each of the plurality of matchups in the game;

determine that at least one of the real-world events associated with the matchups in the game has completed and that the selected winner was a winner according to the real-world events; and

based on the determination that the selected winner of the matchups was a winner, generate an entry in the chance-based sweepstakes game for the selecting user.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein each correctly selected winning matchup results in creation of an additional entry in the chance-based sweepstakes game.

15 . The system of claim 13 , wherein each of the plurality of matchups comprises at least one of:

a matchup between two or more participants based on performance scores, or

a matchup between an over performance score option and an under performance score option for the at least one participant.

16 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the determination that the real-world event resulted in the at least one matchup being a winner is based solely upon the selecting user's selections and not on the selections of other users.

17 . The system of claim 13 , wherein one or more winners for the chance-based sweepstakes game are selected from eligible winners of the skill-based game.

18 . The system of claim 13 , further comprising:

randomly selecting a winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game from the generated entries; and

causing a user interface associated with the winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game to present an indication of the win.

19 . The system of claim 18 , further comprising:

randomly selecting, from remaining entries that did not win initially, a consolation prize winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game from the remaining entries; and

causing a user interface associated with the consolation prize winner of the chance-based sweepstakes game to present an indication of the consolation prize win.

20 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising one or more computer-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing device, cause the computing device to:

determine that at least one skill-based game has been instantiated on at least one electronic device, the skill-based game being configured to allow selection of potential winners from a plurality of matchups in a game, wherein each of the plurality of matchups includes at least two components, associated with at least one participant in one or more real-world events, that are selected so as to produce outcomes that are generally equally weighted within the skill-based game, and wherein winners of the skill-based game are eligible to participate in a chance-based sweepstakes game;

receive, from a selecting user, an indication of a selected winner for each of the plurality of matchups in the game;

determine that at least one of the real-world events associated with the matchups in the game has completed and that the selected winner was a winner according to the real-world events; and

based on the determination that the selected winner of the matchups was a winner, generate an entry in the chance-based sweepstakes game for the selecting user.
