Abstract

A device may utilize a point-to-point protocol over Ethernet (PPPOE) and a point-to-point protocol (PPP) to register the device with a core network, and may establish a first packet data unit (PDU) session with the core network based on the PPPOE and the PPP. The device may configure the first PDU session, based on the PPPOE and the PPP, to provide a first service, and may generate first keep alive messages to maintain the first PDU session. The device may establish a second PDU session with the core network based on the PPPOE and the PPP, and may configure the second PDU session based on the PPPOE and the PPP, where the second PDU session is configured to provide a second service that is different than the first service. The device may generate second keep alive messages to maintain the second PDU session.

Claims (63)

1 . A method, comprising:

establishing, by a device, a first packet data unit (PDU) session with a core network,

wherein the first PDU session is configured to provide a first service;

establishing, by the device and during the first PDU session, a second PDU session with the core network,

wherein the second PDU session is configured to provide a second service that is different than the first service; and

transmitting, by the device, messages to maintain the second PDU session with the core network.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting a message to maintain the first PDU session.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a PDU session modification command from the core network; and

executing the PDU session modification command to:

modify the first PDU session, or

modify the second PDU session.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

establishing a first general packet radio service (GPRS) tunneling protocol (GTP) tunnel for the first PDU session.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

releasing the first PDU session; and

deregistering the device with the core network based on releasing the first PDU session.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing a deregistration request; and

receiving a deregistration accept message based on providing the deregistration request.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein establishing the first PDU session with the core network comprises:

establishing the first PDU session with the core network based on a transport protocol.

8 . A device, comprising:

one or more memories; and

one or more processors to:

establish a first packet data unit (PDU) session with a core network;

establish, during the first PDU session, a second PDU session with the core network,

wherein the second PDU session is configured to provide a second service that is different than a first service provided by the first PDU session; and

transmit a message to maintain the second PDU session with the core network.

9 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further to:

utilize a point-to-point protocol over Ethernet (PPPOE) to register the device with the core network.

10 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further to:

utilize a point-to-point protocol (PPP) to register the device with the core network.

11 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors, when establishing the first PDU session with the core network, are to:

establish the first PDU session based on receiving a first PDU session accept message from a core network; and

provide a first PDU session establishment complete indication based on establishing the first PDU session.

12 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further to:

generate a message to maintain the first PDU session.

13 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further to:

release the first PDU session; and

deregister the device based on releasing the first PDU session.

14 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors are further to:

cause a first tunnel to be created in the core network based on establishing the first PDU session; and

cause a second tunnel to be created in the core network based on establishing the second PDU session.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:

one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a device, cause the one or more processors to:

establish a first packet data unit (PDU) session with a core network;

transmit first messages to maintain the first PDU session;

establish, during the first PDU session, a second PDU session with the core network; and

transmit second messages to maintain the second PDU session.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further comprise:

one or more instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

release the first PDU session; and

deregister the device with the core network based on releasing the first PDU session.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further comprise:

one or more instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

modify the first PDU session based on a transport protocol.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the device includes a residential gateway or a user equipment.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the first PDU session and the second PDU session are each configured to provide a service.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further comprise:

one or more instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

utilize a transport protocol to carry messages via wireline access to the core network.
