Alignment notch for an endcap of a filter element
A filtration system comprises a housing having a first housing end and a second housing end. The housing defines a central compartment therein. The housing includes an alignment tab disposed on the second housing end. The alignment tab protrudes from the second housing end towards the first housing end. A filter element is positioned within the housing. The filter element includes a first endcap, a second endcap, and filter media positioned between and extending axially between the first endcap and the second endcap. The filter media defines a central opening extending axially therein. An alignment notch is disposed on the second endcap, the alignment notch protruding from the second endcap toward the first endcap.
1 . A filter element, comprising:
filter media;
a first endcap coupled to a first axial end of the filter media; and
a second endcap coupled to a second axial end of the filter media, the second endcap comprising:
a second endcap first surface;
a second endcap second surface spaced axially apart from the second endcap first surface, the second endcap second surface extending along a perimeter of the second endcap; and
an alignment notch element extending from the second endcap first surface and protruding axially beyond the second endcap second surface towards the first endcap, the alignment notch element comprising:
an alignment notch element first side wall extending from the second endcap first surface to axially beyond the second endcap second surface, the alignment notch element first side wall extending non-perpendicularly from the second endcap first surface; and
an alignment notch element second side wall extending from the second endcap first surface to axially beyond the second endcap second surface.
2 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the alignment notch element second side wall extends non-perpendicularly from the second endcap first surface.
3 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein second endcap including the alignment notch element is coupled to the second axial end of the filter media via an adhesive.
4 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the second endcap includes a fluid outlet portion extending axially away from the filter media.
5 . The filter element of claim 4 , wherein the fluid outlet portion includes a plurality of radial extensions, the plurality of radial extensions extending radially away from a radially outer surface of the fluid outlet portion.
6 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the second endcap includes a perimetral surface extending around a portion of the filter media and between the second endcap first surface and the second endcap second surface.
7 . The filter element of claim 6 , wherein the second endcap includes a radial extension extending from the perimetral surface in a direction radially away from the filter media.
8 . The filter element of claim 6 , wherein the alignment notch element includes an inner circumferential surface positioned radially inwardly from the perimetral surface and extending from the second endcap first surface towards the first endcap, the inner circumferential surface joining the alignment notch element first side wall and the alignment notch element second side wall.
9 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the alignment notch element includes a central curved surface, the central curved surface joining the alignment notch element first side wall and the alignment notch element second side wall.
10 . The filter element of claim 9 , wherein the alignment notch element first side wall and the alignment notch element second side wall are arranged so as to define a v-shape.
11 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the alignment notch element defines an opening in the second endcap first surface.
12 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the alignment notch element defines an opening in the second endcap first surface and the second endcap second surface.
13 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the alignment notch element defines an angled opening, a first width of the angled opening proximate to a first axial end of the alignment notch element being greater than a second width of the angled opening proximate to a second axial end of the alignment notch element.
14 . The filter element of claim 1 , wherein the second endcap first surface is substantially parallel to the second endcap second surface.
