DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING KNEE REPLACEMENTS
Knee replacement prosthesis are provided, comprising a plurality of sensors and at least one of a femoral component, a patellar prosthesis and a tibial component.

24 . A method comprising:
obtaining acceleration data from measurements made by a plurality of acceleration-measuring accelerometers positioned within a tibial stem of a knee replacement prosthesis located in-situ in a knee of a patient wherein the measurements are made within a period of time;
recording and storing the acceleration data in a memory located within the tibial stem;
transferring the acceleration data from the memory in the tibial stem component to a memory in a location outside the knee replacement prosthesis; and
analyzing the acceleration data to determine a range of motion of the knee replacement prosthesis during post-operative ambulation by the patient.

66 . The method of claim 24 wherein the period of time is one second and the measurements are made several times by the accelerometers during the period of time.
67 . The method of claim 24 wherein acceleration data is obtained at multiple times over several months, where at each of the multiple times several acceleration measurements are made by the accelerometers during the period of time of one second.
68 . The method of claim 24 wherein the acceleration data is obtained between periodic visits by the patient with a health care provider.
69 . The method of claim 24 wherein the measurements are made post-operatively during a recuperative period while the patient is gaining full recovery from implantation of the knee replacement prosthesis in the patient.
70 . The method of claim 24 wherein the measurements are made post-operatively after the patient has made a full recovery from implantation of the knee replacement prosthesis in the patient.
71 . The method of claim 24 wherein multiple range of motion values are obtained at multiple times.
72 . The method of claim 71 wherein the multiple range of motion values monitor day to day postoperative progress for the total knee replacement.
73 . The method of claim 71 wherein the multiple range of motion values monitor week to week postoperative progress for the total knee replacement.
74 . The method of claim 24 wherein the acceleration data identifies a complication with the knee replacement prosthesis, where the patient is not symptomatic for the complication.
75 . The method of claim 24 wherein the acceleration data identifies a level of patient activity.
76 . The method of claim 24 wherein the acceleration data identifies a level of patient function.

The method of claim 24 further comprising obtaining rotation data from measurements made by a plurality of rotation-measuring accelerometers positioned within the tibial stem component of the knee replacement prosthesis; recording and storing the rotation data in the memory located within the tibial stem component; and transferring the rotation data from the memory in the tibial stem component to the memory in the location outside the knee replacement prosthesis.
78 . The method of claim 24 further comprising the patient signaling to the prosthesis at a particular desired point in time to obtain an event acceleration data from the accelerometers, and the event acceleration data is recorded and stored in the memory located in the tibial stem component.
79 . The method of claim 24 wherein the acceleration data is analyzed to create an image of the knee replacement prosthesis.

The method of claim 29 wherein acceleration data is obtained at multiple times over several months to provide collected acceleration data, and the collected acceleration data is analyzed to create a visual display of positional movement of the knee replacement prosthesis over the several months.
81 . The method of claim 24 further comprising:
obtaining initial acceleration data from measurements made by the plurality of acceleration-measuring accelerometers during implantation of the knee replacement prosthesis;
analyzing the initial acceleration data to determine a baseline value for the range of motion of the implanted knee replacement prosthesis.
82 . The method of claim 24 wherein the tibial stem component is implanted in the patient during a total knee arthroscopy.
83 . The method of claim 24 wherein the tibial stem component is implanted in the patient during a partial knee arthroscopy.
