Abstract

The presently disclosed embodiments relate to insufflation and irrigation conduits for vessel harvesting systems and methods of their use. In particular, the present disclosure relates to a system having a combined cabling for providing gases, liquids, and/or electrical power to an attached medical device and method of use.

Claims (53)

1 . A method for providing an instrument with matter from remotely situated sources, the method comprising:

connecting the instrument to a first end of a cable having multiple independent pathways aggregated therewithin, the pathways running from the first end of the cable across a junction at a second end of the cable and extending therefrom;

attaching at least one pathway extending from the junction to its respective source; and

allowing the matter from the source to be directed along the pathway to the instrument.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, in the connecting step, the cable minimizes clutter through aggregating the independent pathways into the cable.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, in the connecting step, the cable includes a molded strain relief at the second end of the cable.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, in the connecting step, the cable is flexible.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, in the connecting step, the cable includes at least one spacer disposed therein to maintain a substantially circular cross section of the cable.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, in the allowing step, the matter can include at least one of the following:

electricity;

light;

data;

gas; and/or

liquid.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

attaching at least one of the pathways to at least one source for data transmission; and

transferring data to and/or from the instrument.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein, in the attaching step, the source for the data transmission is a processing unit.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein, in the transferring step, the source for the data transmission additionally provides power to the instrument.

10 . A method for providing a device with matter, the method comprising:

providing an elongated body having a first end to connect to the device and a junction at a second end to consolidate a plurality of components, the plurality of components extending across the elongated body;

connecting the plurality of components to a plurality of sources and connecting the first end of the elongated body to the device; and

permitting the matter to move along a respective pathway to the device.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein, in the providing step, the plurality of components includes at least two of:

wiring for an imaging device;

wiring for illumination;

fiber optic wiring;

wiring for power;

wiring for data transmission;

an insufflation lumen for transferring gas; and

an irrigation lumen for transferring liquid.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein, in the permitting step, matter can include at least one of the following:

electricity;

light;

data;

gas; and/or

liquid.

13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein, in the providing step, the elongated body includes a molded strain relief at a first end of the elongated body for coupling to the device.

14 . The method of claim 10 , wherein, in the providing step, the elongated body includes at least one spacer within the elongated body to maintain a substantially circular cross section of the elongated body.

15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein, in the connecting step, each source of the plurality of sources is spatially separate from each other.

16 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

connecting at least one of the plurality of components to a power source; and

powering the device through the elongated body.

17 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

connecting at least one of the plurality of components to a source for data transmission; and

transferring data to and/or from the device.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein, in the connecting step, the source for the data transmission additionally provides power.

19 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

connecting at least one of the plurality of components to a media source; and

delivering media along the elongated body, through the device, and to a site of interest.

20 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

connecting at least one of the plurality of components to an irrigation source, the irrigation source designed to deliver irrigation fluid and/or provide a vacuum to remove fluid from a site of interest; and

conveying irrigation to and/or from the site of interest.
