MAKING FT PRODUCTS AFTER STREAM REFORMING AND HYDROCARBON REFORMING
A system and method for processing unconditioned syngas first removes solids and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC), then removes volatile organic compounds (VOC), and then removes at least one sulfur containing compound from the syngas. Additional processing may be performed depending on such factors as the source of syngas being processed, the products, byproducts and intermediate products desired to be formed, captured or recycled and environmental considerations.
1 . A method of processing a syngas, the method comprising:
reacting the first syngas stream, an oxidant, and one or more gaseous hydrocarbons in a reactor to yield a second syngas stream;
removing carbon dioxide from the second syngas stream to yield a third syngas stream and a carbon dioxide stream; and
recycling at least a portion the carbon dioxide stream for use as an oxidant during generating the first syngas stream.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said generating the first syngas stream comprises:
reforming a biomass to yield the first syngas stream.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein said reforming comprises steam reforming.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein said reforming comprises an oxidant, a catalyst, and/or a partial oxidative environment.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said generating the first syngas stream comprises:
reforming an initial syngas stream to yield the first syngas stream, wherein the first syngas stream has increased amounts of hydrogen (H 2 ) or carbon monoxide (CO), as compared to the initial syngas stream.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said generating the first syngas stream comprises:
processing carbonaceous material to yield a first syngas stream, wherein the carbonaceous material comprises carbon, ash, or char.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the reactor comprises a hydrocarbon reformer.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second syngas stream comprises a syngas having increased amounts of hydrogen (H 2 ) and/or carbon monoxide (CO), as compared to the first syngas stream.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first syngas stream comprises one or more hydrocarbons, and wherein the reactor converts the one or more hydrocarbons into at least hydrogen (H 2 ) and carbon monoxide (CO).
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the oxidant comprises oxygen, carbon dioxide, steam, air, or a combination of any of oxygen, carbon dioxide, steam or air.
14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more gaseous hydrocarbons comprises one or more of natural gas, syngas, offgas, methanol, ethanol, petroleum, methane, ethane, propane, butane, hexane, benzene, toluene, xylene, paraffin wax, or naphthalene.
15 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
reducing a temperature of the second syngas stream to yield a cooled syngas stream.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein said reducing the temperature comprises use of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) to remove heat from second syngas stream.
17 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising, after said reducing:
scrubbing the cooled syngas stream to remove one or more of solids or contaminants to yield a scrubbed syngas stream.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said scrubbing comprises a venturi scrubber.
19 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising, after said reducing:
compressing the cooled syngas stream comprising cooled syngas to yield a compressed syngas stream.
20 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
compressing the second syngas stream to yield a compressed syngas stream.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein said compressing comprises a compressor, wherein a gaseous hydrocarbon source is routed to an inlet of the compressor.
22 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said removing comprises a first adsorber configured for adsorption mode and a second adsorber configured for regeneration mode.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein said removing comprises thermal swing desorption.
24 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
reacting the third syngas stream in a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactor to yield one or more Fischer-Tropsch products.
25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the one or more Fischer-Tropsch products comprises a medium fraction Fischer-Tropsch liquid.
26 . A method of processing a syngas, the method comprising:
processing carbonaceous material in the presence of a first carbon dioxide stream to yield a first syngas stream;
reacting the first syngas stream, an oxidant, and one or more gaseous hydrocarbons to yield a second syngas stream;
removing carbon dioxide from the second syngas stream to yield a third syngas stream and a second carbon dioxide stream; and
recycling at least a portion of the second carbon dioxide stream for use as an oxidant.
27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the carbonaceous material comprises carbon, ash, or char.
