Abstract

A mobile Quality Management/Control system for performing mobile product inspections is provided. A mobile device, such as a tablet, is configured to communicate with one or more databases and allow for real time entry (and subsequent access) of the details of product inspections for quality control and management purposes. The details of such inspections are maintained and available for all subsequent inspections. The mobile device is further configured to provide inspectors with inspection procedures and/or tutorials associated with the inspections being performed.

Claims (60)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a network server, information associated with a plurality of inspection lots from one or more sources in a quality control chain, each of the plurality of inspection lots including a plurality of product samples;

transmitting information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from the network server to a first inspector mobile device to (i) cause the first inspector mobile device to display at least a portion of the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots and (ii) prompt a user of the first inspector mobile device to perform a first inspection of a first product sample in a first inspection lot of the plurality of inspection lots, the displayed information including purchase order information, factory information, an inspection status, an inspection quantity, a sample quantity, an inspection date, or any combination thereof;

receiving in real-time, by the network server, a first inspection report associated with the first inspection of the first product sample in the first inspection lot from the first inspector mobile device, the first inspection report including (i) data manually inputted by the user of the first inspector mobile device, (ii) image data generated by a camera of the first inspector mobile device that is reproducible as one or more images of at least a portion of the first product sample in the first inspection lot, or (iii) both (i) and (ii);

transmitting in real-time, from the network server, the first inspection report to a quality coordinator device;

causing the quality coordinator device to display information associated with the first inspection report, the information associated with the first inspection report including factory information associated with the first inspection lot and information associated with the first product sample;

responsive to a determination that the first product sample in the first inspection lot is rejected subsequent to the first inspection, blocking delivery of the first inspection lot and transmitting information from the network server to the first inspector mobile device to prompt the user of the first inspector mobile device to perform a second inspection of the first inspection lot; and

receiving in real-time, by the network server, a second inspection report associated with the second inspection of the first product sample in the first inspection lot from the first inspector mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the prompting of the user of the first inspector mobile device to perform the first inspection of the first inspection lot includes causing the first inspector mobile device to display inspection criteria.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

prior to transmitting the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from the network server to the first inspector mobile device, prompting a user of the quality coordinator device to specify the inspection criteria; and

receiving, by the network server, the inspection criteria from the quality coordinator device.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from the network server to a second inspector mobile device to (i) cause the second inspector mobile device to display at least a portion of the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots and (ii) prompt a user of the second inspector mobile device to perform a first inspection of a second inspection lot, the displayed information including purchase order information, factory information, an inspection status, an inspection quantity, a sample quantity, an inspection date, or any combination thereof; and

receiving in real-time, by the network server, a second inspection report associated with the first inspection of the second inspection lot from the second inspector mobile device, the second inspection report including (i) data manually inputted by the user of the second inspector mobile device, (ii) image data generated by a camera of the second inspector mobile device that is reproducible as one or more images of at least a portion of a first product sample in the second inspection lot, or (iii) both (i) and (ii).

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

transmitting in real-time, from the network server, the second inspection report to a quality coordinator device; and

causing the quality coordinator device to display information associated with the second inspection report, the information associated with the second inspection report including an indication indicative of whether the second inspection lot is accepted or rejected.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image data is reproducible as an image of a barcode on the first product sample in the first inspection lot.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

causing the first inspector mobile device to display a user-selectable email element; and

responsive to an input indicative of a selection of the user-selectable email element, causing the first inspection report to be transmitted to the quality coordinator device via email.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from one or more sources in the quality control chain is received by the network server.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first product sample is a master carton, a carton, packaging, or packaging materials.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first inspection is a source inspection.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the causing of the first inspector mobile device to display at least the portion of the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots includes displaying a geographic map indicative of a location associated with the first inspection lot.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving in real-time, by the network server, a social compliance report associated with a factory, wherein the social compliance report includes information indicative of a number of factory employees and factory wage information.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising transmitting in real-time the social compliance report to the quality coordinator device.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data manually inputted by the user of the first inspector mobile device includes an identification of one or more defects in the first product sample in the first inspection lot.

15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising automatically accepting the first inspection lot based at least in part on at least a portion of the first inspection report.

16. The method of claim 1 , further comprising automatically rejecting the first inspection lot based at least in part on at least a portion of the first inspection report.

17. The method of claim 1 , further comprising responsive to a determination that the first product sample in the first inspection lot is rejected subsequent to receiving the second inspection report, prompting a second inspection lot to be created.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determination that the first product sample in the first inspection lot is rejected subsequent to the first inspection is based at least in part on the first product sample meeting a predetermined product criteria.

19. A method comprising:

receiving, by a network server, information associated with a plurality of inspection lots from one or more sources in a quality control chain, each of the plurality of inspection lots including a plurality of product samples;

transmitting information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from the network server to a first inspector mobile device to (i) cause the first inspector mobile device to display at least a portion of the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots and (ii) prompt a user of the first inspector mobile device to perform a first inspection of a first product sample in a first inspection lot of the plurality of inspection lots, the displayed portion of information associated with the plurality of inspection lots including purchase order information, factory information, an inspection status, an inspection quantity, a sample quantity, an inspection date, or any combination thereof;

receiving in real-time, by the network server, a first inspection report associated with the first inspection of the first inspection lot from the first inspector mobile device, the first inspection report including (i) data manually inputted by the user of the first inspector mobile device, (ii) image data generated by a camera of the first inspector mobile device that is reproducible as one or more images of at least a portion of the first product sample in the first inspection lot, or (iii) both (i) and (ii);

transmitting in real-time, from the network server, the first inspection report to a quality coordinator device;

causing the quality coordinator device to display information associated with the first inspection report, the information associated with the first inspection report including factory information associated with the first inspection lot and information associated with the first product sample;

responsive to a determination that the first product sample in the first inspection lot is accepted subsequent to the first inspection, permitting delivery of the first inspection lot;

responsive to a determination that the first product sample in the first inspection lot is rejected subsequent to the first inspection, transmitting information from the network server to the first inspector mobile device to prompt the user of the first inspector mobile device to perform a second inspection of the first inspection lot; and

responsive to prompting the user of the first inspector mobile device to perform a second inspection, receiving in real-time, by the network server, a second inspection report associated with the second inspection of the first product sample in the first inspection lot from the first inspector mobile device.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the prompting the user of the first inspector mobile device to perform the first inspection of the first inspection lot includes causing the first inspector mobile device to display inspection criteria.

21. The method of claim 20 , further comprising:

prior to transmitting the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from the network server to the first inspector mobile device, prompting a user of the quality coordinator device to specify the inspection criteria; and

receiving, by the network server, the inspection criteria from the quality coordinator device.

22. The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

transmitting information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from the network server to a second inspector mobile device to (i) cause the second inspector mobile device to display at least a portion of the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots and (ii) prompt a user of the second inspector mobile device to perform a first inspection of a second inspection lot, the displayed information including purchase order information, factory information, an inspection status, an inspection quantity, a sample quantity, an inspection date, or any combination thereof; and

receiving in real-time, by the network server, a second inspection report associated with the first inspection of the second inspection lot from the second inspector mobile device, the second inspection report including (i) data manually inputted by the user of the second inspector mobile device, (ii) image data generated by a camera of the second inspector mobile device that is reproducible as one or more images of at least a portion of a sample in the second inspection lot, or (iii) both (i) and (ii).

23. The method of claim 22 , further comprising:

transmitting in real-time, from the network server, the second inspection report to a quality coordinator device;

causing the quality coordinator device to display information associated with the second inspection report, the information associated with the second inspection report including an indication indicative of whether the second inspection lot is accepted or rejected; and

responsive to a determination that the second inspection lot is accepted based at least in part on the second inspection report, permitting a delivery of the second inspection lot.

24. The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

causing the first inspector mobile device to display a user-selectable email element; and

responsive to an input indicative of a selection of the user-selectable email element, causing the first inspection report to be transmitted to the quality coordinator device via email.

25. The method of claim 19 , wherein the information associated with the plurality of inspection lots from one or more sources in the quality control chain is received by the network server.

26. The method of claim 19 , wherein the first inspection is a source inspection.

27. The method of claim 19 , wherein the data manually inputted by the user of the first inspector mobile device includes an identification of one or more defects in the first inspection lot.

28. The method of claim 19 , further comprising automatically accepting or rejecting the first inspection lot based at least in part on at least a portion of the first inspection report.
