Abstract

The present disclosure relates to noninvasive methods, devices, and systems for measuring various blood constituents or analytes, such as glucose. In an embodiment, a light source comprises LEDs and super-luminescent LEDs. The light source emits light at at least wavelengths of about 1610 nm, about 1640 nm, and about 1665 nm. In an embodiment, the detector comprises a plurality of photodetectors arranged in a special geometry comprising one of a substantially linear substantially equal spaced geometry, a substantially linear substantially non-equal spaced geometry, and a substantially grid geometry.

Claims (22)

1 . (canceled)

2 . A noninvasive optical sensor comprising:

an optical source configured to emit optical radiation into a tissue at a measurement site on a patient; and

a first heat insulating shell housing the optical source, the first heat insulating shell including:

a top surface;

a bottom surface opposite the top surface;

a cavity extending from the top surface to the bottom surface, wherein the top surface includes a curved surface at a periphery of said cavity;

a heat sink comprising heat conducting material and disposed at least partially within said cavity, the heat sink having an outer convex surface that substantially aligns with the curved surface of the periphery of the top surface to form a substantially uninterrupted top convex surface of a housing of the noninvasive optical sensor, wherein heat produced by the optical source is dissipated via the heat sink through said cavity; and

one or more curved fins that form the outer convex surface of the heat sink, wherein a thickness of the outer convex surface of the heat sink is substantially less than a length of the top convex surface of said housing.

3 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 2 , wherein the tissue at the measurement site comprises a digit of the patient.

4 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 2 further comprising:

a cable connected to a monitor device configured to process at least one signal stream from the noninvasive optical sensor to determine output values for one or more physiological parameters.

5 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 2 further comprising:

wireless communications with a monitor device configured to process at least one signal stream from the noninvasive optical sensor to determine output values for one or more physiological parameters.

6 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 5 , wherein one of the one or more physiological parameters comprises total hemoglobin.

7 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 5 , wherein one of the one or more physiological parameters comprises oxygen saturation.

8 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 5 further comprising:

a thermistor configured to output a temperature signal responsive to a temperature of the measurement site.

9 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 8 , wherein the monitor device is further configured to process the at least one signal stream and the temperature signal to determine the output values for the one or more physiological parameters.

10 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 9 , wherein the thermistor measures the temperature of the measurement site to correct wavelength drift from the optical source after attenuation by the tissue.

11 . The noninvasive optical sensor of claim 2 further comprising:

a plurality of photodiodes configured to detect the optical radiation from the optical source after attenuation by the tissue of the patient and each output a respective signal stream responsive to the detected optical radiation.
