Abstract

An inhibited, liquid fertilizer comprising one or more nitrogen fertilizers and a liquid inhibitor composition.

Claims (34)

1 . An inhibited, liquid fertilizer comprising one or more nitrogen fertilizers and a liquid inhibitor composition, wherein the liquid inhibitor composition comprises:

a. one or more nitrification inhibitors selected from the group consisting of 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)pyridine, 4-Amino-1,2,4-6-triazole HCl, 2,4-Diamino-6-trichloromethyltriazine CL-1580, thiourea, 1-Mercapto-1,2,4-triazole, 2-Amino-4-chloro-6-methylpyrimidine, and dicyandiamide (DCD),

b. one or more urease inhibitors selected from the group consisting of: a) phosphoric triamides, b) thiophosphoric triamides and c) alkylated thiophosphoric triamides, wherein the alkylated thiophosphoric triamides have one or more alkyl groups that independently contain between 1 and 6 carbon atoms, and

c. a delivery system comprising; i) one or more members selected from the group consisting of (1) propylene glycol, (2) glycerin, (3) polyethylene glycol, and mixtures thereof, ii) N-alkyl-2-pyrrolidone, and iii) dimethyl sulfoxide,

wherein the one or more nitrogen fertilizers comprise a) urea, b) ammonium nitrate,

c) ammonium sulfate, d) manure, e) ammonium phosphate, and f) mixtures thereof, wherein the liquid inhibited fertilizer is an aqueous solution for application to soil to provide improved nitrogen retention in the soil for uptake for plant life, wherein the one or more nitrification inhibitors and the one or more urease inhibitors are completely dissolved within the delivery system, wherein the liquid inhibitor composition is non-aqueous, wherein the non-aqueous condition of the liquid inhibitor composition improves the storage and transport stability of the urease inhibitor preventing loss of viability.

2 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein said one or more nitrification inhibitors comprise 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)pyridine.

3 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the one or more nitrification inhibitors comprises dicyandiamide.

4 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the one or more urease inhibitors comprises alkylated thiophosphoric triamides, wherein the alkylated thiophosphoric triamides have one or more alkyl groups that independently contain between 1 and 6 carbon atoms.

5 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 4 , wherein the alkylated thiophosphoric triamides comprise N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT).

6 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more members selected from the group consisting of a) surfactants, b) buffers, c) fragrance/odor masking agents, d) micro-nutrients, and e) flow modifiers.

7 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the liquid inhibitor composition further comprises one or more members selected from the group consisting of a) surfactants, b) buffers, c) fragrance/odor masking agents, d) micro-nutrients, and e) flow modifiers.

8 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the one or more nitrogen fertilizers comprise one or more members selected from the group consisting of a) urea, b) ammonium nitrate, and c) mixtures thereof.

The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more members selected from the group consisting of a) one or more alkylene carbonates selected from the group consisting of i) propylene carbonate, ii) ethylene carbonate, and iii) butylene carbonate, b) cyclohexylpyrrolidone, c) ethyl lactate, d) 1,3 dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone, e) limonene, f) one or more polyols selected from the group consisting of i) ethylene glycol, ii), butylene glycol, iii) trimethylol propane, iv) pentaerythritol, v) trimethylol ethane, vi) polypropylene glycol, and vii) polyethylene/polypropylene glycol co-polymer, g) tripropylene glycol methyl ether, h) tripropylene glycol butyl ether, i) acetate and/or fumerate capping of one or more members selected from the group consisting of (i) propylene glycol, (ii) butylene glycol, (iii) polyethylene glycol, (iv) tripropylene glycol methyl ether, and (v) tripropylene glycol butyl ether.

The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the liquid inhibitor composition further comprises one or more members selected from the group consisting of a) one or more alkylene carbonates selected from the group consisting of i) propylene carbonate, ii) ethylene carbonate, and iii) butylene carbonate, b) cyclohexylpyrrolidone, c) ethyl lactate, d) 1,3 dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone, e) limonene, f) one or more polyols selected from the group consisting of i) ethylene glycol, ii), butylene glycol, iii) trimethylol propane, iv) pentaerythritol, v) trimethylol ethane, vi) polypropylene glycol, and vii) polyethylene/polypropylene glycol co-polymer, g) tripropylene glycol methyl ether, h) tripropylene glycol butyl ether, i) acetate and/or fumerate capping of one or more members selected from the group consisting of (i) propylene glycol, (ii) butylene glycol, (iii) polyethylene glycol, (iv) tripropylene glycol methyl ether, and (v) tripropylene glycol butyl ether.

11 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 5 , wherein the liquid inhibitor composition comprises from 5 weight % to 45 weight % of NBPT.

12 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 1 , wherein the liquid inhibitor composition comprises from 5 weight % to 45 weight % of the one or more nitrification inhibitors.

13 . An inhibited, liquid fertilizer comprising urea and a liquid inhibitor composition, wherein the liquid inhibitor composition comprises:

a. one or more nitrification inhibitors selected from the group consisting of 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)pyridine, 4-Amino-1,2,4-6-triazole HCl, 2,4-Diamino-6-trichloromethyltriazine CL-1580, thiourea, 1-Mercapto-1,2,4-triazole, 2-Amino-4-chloro-6-methylpyrimidine, and dicyandiamide,

b. one or more urease inhibitors selected from the group consisting of: a) phosphoric triamides, b) thiophosphoric triamides and c) alkylated thiophosphoric triamides, wherein the alkylated thiophosphoric triamides have one or more alkyl groups that independently contain between 1 and 6 carbon atoms, and

c. a delivery system comprising; i) one or more members selected from the group consisting of (1) propylene glycol, (2) glycerin, (3) polyethylene glycol, and mixtures thereof, ii) N-alkyl-2-pyrrolidone, and iii) dimethyl sulfoxide,

wherein the liquid inhibited fertilizer is an aqueous solution for application to soil to provide improved nitrogen retention in the soil for uptake for plant life, wherein the one or more nitrification inhibitors and the one or more urease inhibitors are completely dissolved within the delivery system, wherein the liquid inhibitor composition is non-aqueous, wherein the non-aqueous condition of the liquid inhibitor composition improves the storage and transport stability of the urease inhibitor preventing loss of viability.

14 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 13 , wherein the one or more nitrification inhibitors comprises dicyandiamide.

15 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 13 , wherein one or more urease inhibitors comprise N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide.

16 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 13 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more members selected from the group consisting of a) surfactants, b) buffers, c) fragrance/odor masking agents, d) micro-nutrients, and e) flow modifiers.

17 . An inhibited, liquid fertilizer comprising one or more nitrogen fertilizers and a liquid inhibitor composition, wherein the liquid inhibitor composition comprises:

a. one or more nitrification inhibitors comprise dicyandiamide,

b. one or more urease inhibitors comprise NBPT, and

c. a delivery system comprising; i) one or more members selected from the group consisting of (1) propylene glycol, (2) glycerin, (3) polyethylene glycol, and mixtures thereof, ii) N-alkyl-2-pyrrolidone, and iii) dimethyl sulfoxide,

wherein the one or more nitrogen fertilizers comprise a) urea, b) ammonium nitrate,

c) ammonium sulfate, d) manure, e) ammonium phosphate, and f) mixtures thereof, wherein the liquid inhibited fertilizer is an aqueous solution for application to soil to provide improved nitrogen retention in the soil for uptake for plant life, wherein the dicyandiamide and the NBPT are completely dissolved within the delivery system, wherein the liquid inhibitor composition is non-aqueous, wherein the non-aqueous condition of the liquid inhibitor composition improves the storage and transport stability of the NBPT preventing loss of viability.

18 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 17 , wherein the liquid inhibitor composition comprises from 5 weight % to 45 weight % of NBPT.

19 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 17 , wherein the liquid inhibitor composition comprises from 5 weight % to 45 weight % of DCD.

20 . The inhibited, liquid fertilizer of claim 17 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more members selected from the group consisting of a) surfactants, b) buffers, c) fragrance/odor masking agents, d) micro-nutrients, and e) flow modifiers.
