Abstract

Provided herein are olefinic feedstocks derived from conjugated hydrocarbon terpenes (e.g., C 10 -C 30 terpenes), methods for making the same, and methods for their use.

Claims (22)

.- 106 . (canceled)

. A composition made by a method, wherein the composition comprises at least about 50% mono-olefinic species in a mixture of hydrogenated reaction products, and

wherein the method comprises selectively hydrogenating, in two or more stages, a conjugated terpene comprising at least three olefinic bonds wherein two of the at least three olefinic bonds form a conjugated diene.

. The composition of claim 107 , wherein the composition comprises about 20% or less di-olefinic species.

. The composition of claim 107 , wherein the composition comprises at least about 60% mono-olefinic species.

. The composition of claim 107 , wherein the composition comprises greater than 60% mono-olefinic species.

. The composition of claim 107 , wherein the composition comprises less than about 1% tri-olefin.

. The composition of claim 107 , wherein the composition comprises less than about 0.5% tri-olefin.

. The composition of claim 107 , wherein the hydrogenating comprises catalytic hydrogenation with a catalyst, a catalyst loading, a reaction temperature, and hydrogen pressure.

. The composition of claim 113 , wherein the catalyst, the catalyst loading, the reaction temperature, and the hydrogen pressure are selected so that less than about 10% of the molecules in an intermediate product have a conjugated diene moiety after the first hydrogenation stage.

. The composition of claim 113 , wherein the catalyst comprises Pd.

. The composition of claim 113 , wherein the catalyst comprises Pd/C.

. The composition of claim 113 , wherein the catalyst comprises Pd/Al 2 O 3 .

. The composition of claim 107 , comprising about 1% or less conjugated dienes.

. The composition of claim 107 , wherein the composition is an olefinic feedstock selected from the group consisting of: a C 10 mono-olefin feedstock, a C 15 mono-olefin feedstock, a C 20 mono-olefin feedstock, and a C 30 mono-olefin feedstock.

. The composition of claim 119 , wherein the olefinic feedstock comprises less than about 1 ppm sulfur.

. The composition of claim 119 , wherein the olefinic feedstock comprises less than about 1 ppm aromatic compounds.

. The composition of claim 119 , wherein a product is formed from oligomerized or polymerized olefinic feedstock.

. The composition of claim 122 , wherein the oligomerized or polymerized olefinic feedstock is with one or more co-monomers.

. The composition of claim 123 , wherein the oligomerized or polymerized olefinic feedstock is a plastic.

. The composition of claim 123 , wherein the oligomerized or polymerized olefinic feedstock is an oil.

. The composition of claim 123 , wherein the oligomerized or polymerized olefinic feedstock is a lubricant base oil.
