Abstract

A land vehicle assembly is provided with a platform for an operator workspace. A control panel is supported upon the platform in electrical communication with the land vehicle. A caution switch is supported upon the platform in electrical communication with the control panel to provide a signal to the control panel indicative of a caution event. A cable is connected to the caution switch to extend across the control panel. The cable is spaced apart from the control panel so that a predetermined force upon the flexible member actuates the caution switch without significantly obstructing the control panel. A manual force upon the flexible member expands the operator workspace. The control panel is programmed to control a mobile operation of the land vehicle, and discontinue the mobile operation of the land vehicle in response to receipt of the caution event signal.

Claims (50)

1 . A mobile work platform assembly comprising:

a platform adapted to be mounted to a vehicle, and sized to receive an operator thereupon;

a control panel supported upon the platform;

a caution switch supported upon the platform in electrical communication with the control panel to provide a signal to the control panel indicative of a caution event; and

a barrier member removably connected to the caution switch and the platform to extend across the control panel and spaced apart from the control panel so that a predetermined force upon the barrier member disconnects the barrier member from the platform and actuates the caution switch.

2 . A mobile work platform assembly comprising:

a platform adapted to be mounted to a vehicle, and sized to receive an operator within a perimeter thereupon;

a control panel supported upon the platform;

a caution switch supported upon the platform in electrical communication with the control panel to provide a signal to the control panel indicative of a caution event; and

a flexible member connected to the caution switch to extend across the control panel and spaced apart from the control panel so that a predetermined force upon the flexible member actuates the caution switch;

wherein the platform provides an operator workspace that is smaller than the platform perimeter;

wherein a manual force upon the flexible member expands the operator workspace to the platform perimeter; and

wherein the operator workspace is expanded to the platform perimeter upon a disconnection of the flexible member from the control panel in response to the manual force.

3 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 2 further comprising:

a socket connected to one of a first end of the flexible member and the platform, with a bore formed into the socket; and

a plug connected to the other of the first end of the flexible member and the platform, sized to be received in the socket bore.

4 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 3 wherein the caution switch comprises a limit switch provided in the socket to detect the presence of the plug.

5 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 2 wherein the caution switch comprises a limit switch connected to a first end of the flexible member and the platform.

6 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 2 wherein the flexible member comprises a cable to minimize visual obstruction of the control panel.

7 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 2 further comprising an alarm supported upon the platform in electrical communication with the control panel, wherein the control panel is programmed to initiate the alarm in response to receipt of the caution event signal.

8 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 2 further comprising

a frame extending from the platform and defining the platform perimeter; and

a pair of brackets extending from the frame into the platform perimeter, wherein the caution switch is connected to one of the pair of brackets and the flexible member is connected to the other of the pair of brackets.

9 . A land vehicle assembly comprising:

a land vehicle;

a mobile work platform assembly according to claim 2 ;

wherein the land vehicle supports the platform and is in electrical communication with the control panel, wherein the control panel is programmed to:

control at least one mobile operation of the land vehicle, and

discontinue the at least one mobile operation of the land vehicle in response to receipt of the caution event signal.

10 . A mobile work platform assembly comprising:

a platform adapted to be mounted to a vehicle, sized to receive an operator thereupon;

a control panel supported upon the platform;

a caution or safety device to minimize involuntary operation of the control panel, the caution or safety device comprising:

a caution device supported upon the platform;

a barrier member associated with the caution device to extend across the control panel and spaced apart from the control panel so that a predetermined force upon the barrier member actuates the caution device;

a socket connected to a first end of the barrier member or the platform, with a bore formed into the socket; and

a plug connected to the first end of the barrier member or the platform, sized to be received in the socket bore;

a frame extending from the platform and defining the platform perimeter; and

a pair of supports extending from the frame into the platform perimeter, wherein the caution device is connected to one of the pair of supports and the barrier member is connected to the other of the pair of supports.

11 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the caution device comprises a caution switch supported upon the platform; and

wherein the barrier member comprises a flexible member in connection with the caution switch to extend across the control panel and spaced apart from the control panel so that a predetermined force upon the flexible member actuates the caution switch.

12 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 11 further comprising an alarm supported upon the platform in electrical communication with the control panel, wherein the control panel is programmed to initiate the alarm in response to receipt of a caution event signal from the caution switch.

13 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the caution device comprises a switch.

14 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the caution device comprises a sensor.

15 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the caution device comprises a limit switch provided in the socket to detect a presence of the plug.

16 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the caution device comprises a proximity sensor.

17 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 16 wherein the proximity sensor is concealed in a receptacle on a frame of the platform.

18 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the barrier member comprises a cable to minimize visual obstruction of the control panel.

19 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the barrier member is removably connected to the caution device and the platform so that a predetermined force upon the barrier member disconnects the barrier member from the platform and actuates the caution device.

20 . The mobile work platform assembly of claim 10 wherein the barrier member is flexible.
