Abstract

A security system for use in a vehicle includes a first device configured for mounting in a first location of a vehicle, and a second device configured for mounting in a second location of a vehicle different from the first location. The first device includes a first image capture sensor facing a first direction and a first object detection module operative to detect the presence of an object exterior to a vehicle in which the first device may be mounted. The second device includes a second image capture sensor facing a second direction and the second direction different from the first direction.

Claims (31)

1. A security system for use in a vehicle, comprising:

a first device configured for mounting in a first location of a vehicle;

a second device configured for mounting in a second location of a vehicle different from the first location;

wherein, the first device comprises:

a first image capture module facing a first direction;

a first object detection module operative to detect the presence of an object exterior to a vehicle in which the first device may be mounted;

the second device comprises:

a second image capture module facing a second direction, the second direction different from the first direction;

a second object detection module operative to detect the presence of an object exterior to a vehicle in which the first and second device may be mounted;

wherein, the first device and the second device are configured to couple to each other to communicate data captured on the second device to the first device; and

the first object detection module and the second object detection module in combination are disposed to provide object detection within a perimeter security region of a vehicle in which the first and second device is mounted,

wherein the first object detection module comprises a first signal transmitter and a second signal transmitter, the first and second signal transmitters being operative to emit an object ranging signal, and

wherein the first signal transmitter is oriented so that the direction of the transmitted signal is at a first angle relative to a central focal line of the field of view of the first image capture module and the second signal transmitter is oriented so that the direction of the transmitted signal is at a second angle relative to the central focal line of the field of view of the first image capture module.

2. The security system according to claim 1 , wherein the first object detection module further comprises:

and at least two signal receivers for each of the first signal transmitter and the second signal transmitter, the at least two signal receivers being operative to receive a reflection of the emitted object ranging signal;

wherein the first signal transmitter, the second signal transmitter, and the at least two signal receivers are disposed relative to each other to reduce reflection of the transmitted object ranging signals from a surface of a protective member proximal the first signal transmitter and the second signal transmitter that the transmitted signals travels through.

3. The security system according to claim 2 , wherein the at least two signal receivers comprise four signal receivers, each of the first and second signal transmitters having a respective pair of signal receivers.

4. The security system according to claim 1 , wherein the fields of view of the first signal transmitter intersects with the field of view of the second signal transmitter towards a front of the vehicle in which the first device is mounted.

5. The security system according to claim 1 , wherein the first angle and the second angle are equal and opposite.

6. The security system according to claim 5 , wherein the first angle and second angle are in the range 50 to 70 degrees.

7. The security system according to claim 5 , wherein the first angle and second angle is 60 degrees.

8. The security system according to claim 1 , wherein the first device further comprises a third image capture module facing a third direction different from the first direction.

9. The security system according to claim 8 , wherein the direction of the third image capture module is into a vehicle in which the first device is mounted.

10. The security system according to claim 8 , wherein the third image capture module of the first device is a wide-angle lens.

11. The security system according claim 1 , wherein the first device or the second device further comprises an inertial measurement unit configured to measure angular velocity and/or acceleration of the first device or second device, respectively.

The security system according to claim 1 , wherein, the data transferred between the first device and the second device is video data; and/or angular velocity and/or acceleration data; and/or motion detection data; and/or computer vision inference classification data, and/or detected security threats; and/or audio data; and/or still image data; and/or temporal data.

13. The security system according to claim 1 , wherein a connection between the first device and second device is a wired electrical connection.

14. The security system for use in a vehicle according to claim 13 , wherein the wired electrical connection is an ethernet connection.

15. The security system according to claim 1 , wherein the first object detection module comprises a first RADAR module and/or a first LIDAR module.

16. The security system according to claim 15 , wherein the second object detection module comprises a second RADAR module and/or a second LIDAR module.

17. The security system according to claim 1 , wherein the perimeter security region is 1 to 5 meters.
