Abstract

Connector assemblies are described herein. For example, a connector assembly including: a housing configured to accept a first ferrule and a second ferrule. The connector assembly may also have a push/pull clip that is configured to depress a protrusion that rotates down a connector device to remove the connector assembly from an adapter. The push/pull clip is integrated with a cable boot assembly that allows a user to apply a distal force to remove or insert the connector assembly into the adapter housing. The push/pull clip is configured for use to release a MPO and LC connector type from an adapter.

Claims (41)

1 . An optical fiber connector comprising:

a connector housing assembly including at least one plug frame and a back body, the back body comprising a back post;

at least one optical fiber ferrule received in the connector housing assembly;

a depressible latch supported on the connector housing assembly, the depressible latch including a connector hook and a protruding portion rearward of the connector hook;

a push/pull boot slidably received over the back post such that the push/pull boot is movable with respect to the connector housing assembly between a front boot position and a rear boot position; and

a push/pull release formed as one piece of material with the push/pull boot and movable conjointly with the push/pull boot between the front boot position and the rear boot position, the push/pull release comprising a front end portion and a rear end portion, and a slot receiving the protruding portion of the depressible latch, the push/pull release comprising an edge margin defining a front edge of the slot, the edge margin of the push/pull release being configured to slide along the protruding portion of the depressible latch to depress the depressible latch as the push/pull release moves from the front boot position to the rear boot position;

wherein in the front boot position, an entirety of the push/pull release is rearwardly spaced apart from the connector hook.

2 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 1 wherein the protruding portion is shaped to facilitate downward deflection of the depressible latch.

3 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 2 wherein the protruding portion of the depressible latch has a forward surface sloping upward from a forward end of the protruding portion toward a rearward end of the protruding portion.

4 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 1 wherein the push pull release is slidably engaged with the connector housing assembly.

5 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 1 , wherein the at least one ferrule comprises first and second ferrules.

6 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 5 , wherein the at least one plug frame comprises a single piece that defines respective spaces for each of the first and second ferrules.

7 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 1 wherein the push/pull release further comprises a tab for manually depressing the depressible latch.

8 . An optical fiber connector comprising:

a connector housing assembly including at least one plug frame and a back body, the back body comprising a back post;

at least one optical fiber ferrule received in the connector housing assembly;

a depressible latch supported on the connector housing assembly;

a push/pull boot slidably received over the back post such that the push/pull boot is movable with respect to the connector housing assembly between a front boot position and a rear boot position; and

a push/pull release formed as one piece of material with the push/pull boot and movably conjointly with the push/pull boot between the front boot position and the rear boot position, the push/pull release comprising a front end portion and a rear end portion, the front end portion of the push/pull release being engagable with the protruding portion of the depressible latch to depress the depressible latch as the push/pull release moves from the front boot position to the rear boot position, the push/pull release further including a manually deflectable portion having a rest position and a deflected position, the manually deflectable portion depressing the depressible latch in the deflected position.

9 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 8 wherein the manually deflectable portion of the push/pull release comprises is formed in the front portion of the push/pull release and at least partially overlies the depressible latch.

10 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 9 wherein the manually depressible portion is formed as one piece of material with the push/pull release.

11 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 10 comprises a tab having a first end portion joined to the push/pull release in a living hinge and a second end portion unconnected to the push/pull release.

12 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 11 wherein the front portion of the push/pull release has a top surface, the tab projecting upward from the top surface.

13 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 12 wherein the second end portion of the tab is wider that the first end portion of the tab.

14 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 8 wherein the front portion of the push/pull release comprises a slot and the depressible latch includes a protruding portion received in the slot.

15 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 14 wherein the slot includes a front edge engagable with the protruding portion of the depressible latch upon movement of the push/pull release from the front boot position to the rear boot position to depress the depressible latch.

16 . The optical fiber connector as set forth in claim 15 wherein the slot includes a rear edge defined by the manually deflectable portion of the push/pull release.

17. An optical fiber connector comprising:

a connector housing assembly including at least one plug frame and a back body, the back body comprising a back post;

at least one optical fiber ferrule received in the connector housing assembly;

a depressible latch supported on the connector housing assembly, the depressible latch including a connector hook and a protruding portion rearward of the connector hook;

a push/pull boot slidably received over the back post such that the push/pull boot is movable with respect to the connector housing assembly between a front boot position and a rear boot position; and

a push/pull release movable conjointly with the push/pull boot between the front boot position and the rear boot position, the push/pull release comprising a front end portion and a rear end portion, and a slot receiving the protruding portion of the depressible latch, the push/pull release comprising an edge margin defining a front edge of the slot, the edge margin of the push/pull release being configured to slide along the protruding portion of the depressible latch to depress the depressible latch as the push/pull release moves from the front boot position to the rear boot position;

wherein in the front boot position, an entirety of the push/pull release is rearwardly spaced apart from the connector hook.

18. The optical fiber connector of claim 17 , wherein the depressible latch comprises a ring portion around the back post.

19. The optical fiber connector of claim 18 , wherein the depressible latch comprises an arm portion extending forward from the ring portion above the at least one plug frame.

The optical fiber connector of claim 19 , wherein the at least one plug frame comprises first and second plug frames laterally spaced apart from one another, the arm portion comprising a single rear section and first and second latch arms branching laterally outward from the single rear section such the first latch arm is above the first plug frame and the second latch arm is above the second plug frame.

21. The optical fiber connector of claim 20 , wherein the connector hook comprises a first connector hook formed on the first latch arm and a second connector hook formed on the second latch arm.

22. The optical fiber connector of claim 17 , wherein the depressible latch comprises an arm portion above the at least one plug frame.

The optical fiber connector of claim 22 , wherein the at least one plug frame comprises first and second plug frames laterally spaced apart from one another, the arm portion comprising a single rear section and first and second latch arms branching laterally outward from the single rear section such the first latch arm is above the first plug frame and the second latch arm is above the second plug frame.

24. The optical fiber connector of claim 23 , wherein the connector hook comprises a first connector hook formed on the first latch arm and a second connector hook formed on the second latch arm.
