Abstract

A mixture of solids is provided that, when solubilized, provides an aqueous composition having a lower-than-neutral pH that includes a significant amount of one or more surfactants and large amounts of osmotically active solutes. The solids mixture can be introduced to a wound prior to solubilization.

Claims (12)

1 . A process for treating a wound, said process comprising

a) introducing to said wound a mixture of solids that comprise one or more organic acids, at least one salt of said one or more organic acids, and ionic surfactant, and

b) solubilizing said solids mixture by adding thereto sufficient water so as to provide a cleansing composition that has a buffered pH of from 3 to 6 and total solute concentration of at least about 0.3 Osm/L.

2 . The process of claim 1 wherein said ionic surfactant comprises benzalkonium chloride.

3 . The process of claim 1 wherein said ionic surfactant comprises sodium lauryl sulfate.

4 . The process of claim 1 wherein said one or more organic acids include citric acid.

5 . The process of claim 4 wherein said at least one salt includes a salt of citric acid.

6 . The process of claim 1 wherein said one or more organic acids is citric acid.

7 . The process of claim 1 wherein said one or more organic acids include acetic acid.

8 . The process of claim 7 wherein said at least one salt includes a salt of acetic acid.

9 . The process of claim 1 wherein said one or more organic acids is acetic acid.

10 . The process of claim 1 wherein said solids mixture further comprises an antihemorrhagic.
