SURGICAL TOOLS FOR SPINAL FACET THERAPY TO ALLEVIATE PAIN AND RELATED METHODS
Methods and surgical tools for treating back pain use a spinal facet debridement tool with cautery and denuding action and minimally invasive protocol that can denude and cauterize soft tissue associated with a synovial capsule of the spinal facet joint.
1 . A surgical tool comprising:
an external tubular support member configured with a base having a bottom surface that is adapted to reside against skin of a patient, wherein the base has or holds an upwardly extending tube with an upwardly extending through channel defining a fluid chamber, wherein the fluid chamber has an inner wall with upper and lower ends, wherein the inner wall travels laterally outward a distance as it moves longitudinally away from each of the upper and lower ends to define an increased volumetric segment configured to extend about an outer perimeter of an outer wall of a guide cannula slidably receivable therein, wherein the upwardly extending tube includes a vacuum port residing above the upper end of the fluid chamber and in fluid communication with the fluid chamber, wherein the upwardly extending tube holds an arm that extends away from an axial direction of the tube about the vacuum port, and wherein the arm is adapted to attach to a conduit to engage a vacuum source.

The surgical tool of claim 1 , in combination with a guide cannula, wherein the guide cannula has an outer wall that surrounds an open longitudinally extending through-channel, the guide cannula outer wall comprising a plurality of longitudinally spaced apart fluid ports extending though the guide cannula outer wall, and wherein the tube is sized and configured to releasably hold the guide cannula.
3 . The surgical tool of claim 2 , in further combination with a hand grip that detachably engages the guide cannula, wherein the hand grip has an open center channel that is concentric with the guide cannula channel.
4 . A spinal surgical tool comprising:
a guide cannula; and
a debrider tool comprising a hand control for selectively rotating a shaft of the debrider tool,
wherein a distal end of the debrider tool is configured to extend out of a distal end of the guide cannula when rotating to debride a spinal target a short distance in a range of about 2 mm and about 7 mm.

The spinal surgical tool of claim 4 , further comprising an external tubular support member configured with a base having a bottom surface that is adapted to reside against skin of a patient, wherein the base has or holds an upwardly extending tube with an upwardly extending through channel defining a fluid chamber, wherein a segment of the guide cannula extends through the external tubular support member, wherein the fluid chamber has an inner wall with upper and lower ends, wherein the inner wall travels laterally outward a distance as it moves longitudinally away from each of the upper and lower ends to define an increased volumetric segment configured to extend about an outer perimeter of an outer wall of a guide cannula slidably receivable therein, wherein the upwardly extending tube includes a vacuum port residing above the upper end of the fluid chamber and in fluid communication with the fluid chamber, wherein the upwardly extending tube holds an arm that extends away from an axial direction of the tube about the vacuum port, and wherein the arm is adapted to attach to a conduit to engage a vacuum source.
