Abstract

A surgical anchor device for being anchored on the mucous membrane of the inner wall of the intestine, the device having a temporary anchor element presenting anchoring that can be modified in a controlled manner and having a first substantially cylindrical multiply-perforated wall presenting properties of radial elasticity whereby the first wall presents an outer diameter that can be varied in controlled manner, wherein a portion of the inner surface of the first wall is lined with an independent leakproof inner sheath having only its longitudinal ends fastened to the anchor element to define a suction chamber between the inner sheath and the first wall, the temporary anchor element being coupled to a flexible or semi-rigid tube extending outside the anchor element, an open end of the injection-suction tube opening out into the suction chamber enabling air to be injected into or sucked out from the suction chamber.

Claims (33)

1. A method for protecting an anastomosis in an intestine during healing, the method comprising:

introducing a device through an anal orifice to an anchor site in the intestine upstream of the anastomosis, the device comprising an expandable upstream region and an expandable downstream region and defining a suction chamber;

expanding, at the anchor site, the expandable upstream region and the expandable downstream region to a greater diameter than a region therebetween such that a sheath of the device extends downstream from the anchor site and across the anastomosis to cover and protect the anastomosis in the intestine from fecal matter flowing through the device; and

applying negative pressure via a tube extending through a leaktight fastener at the anchor site and into the suction chamber to suck fluid from the suction chamber to cause an outer surface of the device to be sucked against an inner wall of the intestine for anchoring the device at the anchor site during implantation, thereby inhibiting migration of the device from the intestine.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tube extends between the suction chamber and a position out of the anal orifice.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device forms a first leaktight seal at an upstream end of the anchor site and a second leaktight seal at a downstream end of the anchor site.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the device comprises a first annular gasket to form the first leaktight seal and a second annular gasket to form the second leaktight seal.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the suction chamber is between the first annular gasket, the second annular gasket, an outer surface of the sheath, and the inner wall of the intestine.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tube is coupled to a connection endpiece comprising a valve.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a biocompatible synthetic material covering at the anchor site.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device, during peristalsis, continues to contact the inner wall of the intestine for anchoring in a leaktight sealed configuration.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, after a digestive process has restarted, releasing the device from the intestine to cause the device to migrate from the intestine via the anal orifice.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the region between the expandable upstream region and the expandable downstream region is a cylindrical region.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, after healing of the anastomosis, using a lasso of the device to release the device from the anchor site for removal from the intestine via the anal orifice.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, after healing of the anastomosis, injecting gas or liquid into the suction chamber using the tube coupled to the suction chamber to release the device from the anchor site for removal from the intestine via the anal orifice.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a mesh of spiral-wound metal wires made of nitinol for anchoring the device at the anchor site.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a second stent arranged coaxially inside a first stent for anchoring the device at the anchor site.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the expanding comprises expanding the expandable upstream region and the expandable downstream region to a diameter selected such that the outer surface of device contacts the inner wall of the intestine for anchoring.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sheath is comprised of biocompatible synthetic material.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises texturing on the outer surface configured to increase a coefficient of friction of the outer surface of the device to resist migration.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device has a diameter in a range of 18 mm to 45 mm.

19. The anchoring system of claim 1 , wherein applying the negative pressure comprises applying the negative pressure via the tube extending between the suction chamber and an external suction appliance positioned out of the anal orifice, the external suction appliance configured to control or modify anchor force against the inner wall of the intestine.

20. The method of claim 1 , further comprising an additional tube for applying the negative pressure at the device.

21. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sheath has a length to extend downstream from the anchor site to outside the anal orifice.

22. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device at the anchor site has a length in a range of 40 mm to 150 mm.

23. The method of claim 1 , further comprising leaving the device in the intestine for at least three days; and

after the at least three days, removing the device from the intestine.

24. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a shape memory material for anchoring the device at the anchor site.

25. The method of claim 1 , wherein introducing the device comprises introducing the device in a tubular outer shell holding the device in a retracted position.

26. The method of claim 25 , further comprising pushing the device out the tubular outer shell via a pusher tube for anchoring the device at the anchor site in the intestine upstream of the anastomosis.

27. The method of claim 1 , wherein introducing the device comprises introducing the device to the anchor site in a colon upstream of the anastomosis for implantation of the device.

28. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sheath extends from the expandable upstream region to out the anal orifice to define a lumen for the fecal matter flowing through the device.

29. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sheath has a flexible tubular wall.
