Abstract

Provided herein are systems, and methods of using such systems, for producing acrylic acid from ethylene oxide and carbon monoxide on an industrial scale. The composition includes: polypropiolactone having a concentration of at least 90 wt %; cobalt or cobalt ions in an amount greater than 0 ppm to 100 ppm; beta propiolactone in an amount greater than 0 ppm to 100 ppm; and tetrahydrofuran and/or methyl-tert-butyl ethery in amount greater than 0 ppm to 100 ppm.
