Abstract

Display assemblies and related systems and methods providing field leak testing are disclosed. An electronic display assembly includes an electronic display, a differential pressure sensor fluidly connected to an ambient environment and an internal area, and fan(s) located within, or fluidly connected with, the internal area. Differential pressure readings are taken before and while and/or after to command a speed of the fan(s) to be temporarily increased. Where an insufficient change is provided, indication of a probable leak is provided.

Claims (63)

a structural framework for installation at an outdoor environment;

an electronic display assembly comprises an illumination device supported by the structural framework for displaying advertising images to individuals located at the outdoor environment; an open loop airflow pathway; a closed loop airflow pathway comprising an area internal to the structural framework (“internal area”) which is partitioned from the outdoor environment; fans, a first set of which are located along the open loop airflow pathway which, when operated, move ambient air ingested from the outdoor environment through the open loop airflow pathway, and a second set of which are located along the closed loop airflow pathway which, when operated, move the gas through the closed loop airflow pathway, including through the internal area; a differential pressure sensor in fluid connection with the outdoor environment and the internal area; and a controller comprising one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices comprising software instructions, which when executed, configure one or more processors of the controller to: take at least one differential pressure reading from the differential pressure sensor; command a speed of the one or more fans to be temporarily increased; and take at least one additional differential pressure reading from the differential pressure sensor with and/or following the command to temporarily increase the speed of the one or more fans.

2. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

said controller comprises additional software instructions stored at the one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices, which when executed, further configure the one or more processors to:

determine if said at least one additional differential pressure reading changes from the at least one differential pressure reading by at least a predetermined amount.

3. The electronic display assembly of claim 2 wherein:

said controller comprises additional software instructions stored at the one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices, which when executed, further configure the one or more processors to:

where said at least one additional differential pressure reading does not change from the at least one differential pressure reading by at least the predetermined amount, determine that a leak is likely present.

4. The electronic display assembly of claim 3 wherein:

said controller comprises additional software instructions stored at the one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices, which when executed, further configure the one or more processors to:

where said at least one additional differential pressure reading changes from the at least one differential pressure reading by at least the predetermined amount, determine that no leak is likely present.

5. The electronic display assembly of claim 4 wherein:

said controller comprises additional software instructions stored at the one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices, which when executed, further configure the one or more processors to:

indicate that the leak is likely present and is not likely present by way of transmission of data indicating the same to at least one remote electronic device.

6. The electronic display assembly of claim 4 wherein:

the predetermined amount is a pressure value between 0-10 psi.

7. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the electronic display comprises a directly backlit liquid crystal display.

8. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

said controller comprises additional software instructions stored at the one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices, which when executed, further configure the one or more processors to:

command at least one of: turn off the illumination device, turn off the one or more fans located along the open loop airflow pathway, and turn off the one or more fans located along the closed loop airflow pathway;

subsequently, take a first baseline differential pressure reading from the differential pressure sensor;

subsequently, command at least one of: turn on the illumination device, turn on the one or more fans located along the open loop airflow pathway, and turn on the one or more fans located along the closed loop airflow pathway in accordance with the item or items turned off;

subsequently, take a second baseline differential pressure reading from the differential pressure sensor; and

determine a baseline differential pressure change based on a difference between the first and second baseline differential pressure readings;

the predetermined amount comprises the baseline differential pressure change with a margin of error.

9. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the internal area is partitioned from the outdoor environment in a fashion sufficient to normally seal the internal area from the outdoor environment in an at least dust-tight fashion.

10. The electronic display assembly of claim 9 wherein:

the internal area is partitioned from the outdoor environment, at least in part, by at least one wall and at least one gasket.

11. The electronic display assembly of claim 1 wherein:

the one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices comprises additional software instructions, which when executed, configure the one or more processors to cause said differential pressure reading and said additional differential pressure reading to be made at least once every twenty-four-hour period.

12. A system comprising:

the electronic display assembly of claim 1 ;

one or more non-transitory electronic storage devices remote from the electronic display assembly and comprising software instructions, which when executed, configure one or more processors remote from the electronic display assembly to:

determine if said at least one additional differential pressure reading changes from the at least one differential pressure reading by at least a predetermined amount, and if so, indicate that no leak is likely present; and

determine if said at least one additional differential pressure reading changes from the at least one differential pressure reading by at least a predetermined amount, and if not, indicate that a leak is likely present.

13. A method for field testing an electronic display assembly for digital out of home advertising installed at an outdoor environment for leaks, the method comprising, while advertising images are displayed at an electronic display of the electronic display assembly:

taking, by way of a controller of the electronic display assembly, at least one differential pressure reading from a differential pressure sensor in fluid connection with the outdoor environment and an internal area of the electronic display assembly;

commanding by way of the controller, a speed of one or more fans to be temporarily increased, where said one or more fans are located within, or fluidly connected with, the internal area and, when operated, move gas within at least the internal area; and

taking, by way of the controller, at least one additional differential pressure reading from the differential pressure sensor with and/or following the command to temporarily increase the speed of the one or more fans.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising:

determining, by way of the controller, if said at least one additional differential pressure reading changes from the at least one differential pressure reading by at least a predetermined amount, and if so, determining, by way of the controller, that a leak is likely present.

15. The method of claim 13 further comprising:

determining, by way of the controller, if said at least one additional differential pressure reading changes from the at least one differential pressure reading by at least a predetermined amount, and if not, determining, by way of the controller, that no leak is likely present.

16. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

indicating, by way of the controller, that the leak is likely present and is not likely present is performed by way of transmission of data indicating the same to at least one remote electronic device by way of the controller.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein:

the predetermined amount is a pressure value between 0-10 psi.

18. An electronic display assembly with field leak testing, said electronic display assembly comprising:

an electronic display;

a closed airflow pathway partitioned from an ambient environment and including an internal area;
