Abstract

An endoscope system is provided with a graphical orientation indicator. An endoscope includes a flexible tubular body with a steerable distal end having a camera. A controller for the endoscope presents a user interface that displays a view from the camera and a graphical orientation indicator visually representing an orientation of the distal end of the endoscope.

Claims (32)

1 . A method for operating a UI for an endoscope system, comprising:

displaying, on a touch screen display, a view from an endoscope and a graphical orientation indicator, the endoscope comprising a steerable distal end with a camera;

receiving, via the touch screen display, a user input to steer the distal end of the endoscope;

in response to the user input, steering the endoscope to a changed orientation of the distal end; and

modifying the graphical orientation indicator to visually represent the changed orientation of the distal end.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising changing the view from the endoscope in a direction of the user input, the user input comprising a sliding or swiping motion.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising changing the view from the endoscope in a direction opposite the user input, the user input comprising a sliding or swiping motion.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising steering the endoscope to the changed orientation at a speed correlated to the user input.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising steering the endoscope to the changed orientation at a speed correlated to a distance of the distal end of the endoscope from a portion of the view from the endoscope indicated by the steering input.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising modifying a graphical working-channel indicator to visually represent the changed orientation of the distal end, wherein the working-channel indicator represents a rotational orientation of a working channel of the endoscope.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the touch screen display is part of a video laryngoscope.

8 . A method for operating a UI for an endoscope system, comprising:

displaying, on a touch screen display of a video laryngoscope to, a view from an endoscope coupled to the video laryngoscope and a graphical orientation indicator, the endoscope comprising a steerable distal end with a camera;

receiving, via the touch screen display, a user input to steer the distal end of the endoscope;

in response to the user input, steering the endoscope to a changed orientation of the distal end; and

modifying the graphical orientation indicator to visually represent the changed orientation of the distal end.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising changing the view from the endoscope in a direction of the user input, the user input comprising a sliding or swiping motion.

10 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising changing the view from the endoscope in a direction opposite the user input, the user input comprising a sliding or swiping motion.

11 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising steering the endoscope to the changed orientation at a speed correlated to the user input.

12 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising steering the endoscope to the changed orientation at a speed correlated to a distance of the distal end of the endoscope from a portion of the view from the endoscope indicated by the steering input.

13 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising modifying a graphical working-channel indicator to visually represent the changed orientation of the distal end, wherein the working-channel indicator represents a rotational orientation of a working channel of the endoscope.

14 . A method for operating a UI for an endoscope system, comprising:

displaying, on a touch screen display of a video laryngoscope to, a view from an endoscope coupled to the video laryngoscope and a working-channel indicator, the endoscope comprising a steerable distal end with a camera and a working channel;

receiving, via the touch screen display, a user input to steer the distal end of the endoscope;

in response to the user input, steering the endoscope to a changed orientation of the distal end; and

modifying the working-channel indicator to visually represent the changed orientation of the distal end.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising changing the view from the endoscope in a direction of the user input, the user input comprising a sliding or swiping motion.

16 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising changing the view from the endoscope in a direction opposite the user input, the user input comprising a sliding or swiping motion.

17 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising steering the endoscope to the changed orientation at a speed correlated to the user input.

18 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising steering the endoscope to the changed orientation at a speed correlated to a distance of the distal end of the endoscope from a portion of the view from the endoscope indicated by the steering input.

19 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising modifying a graphical orientation indicator to visually represent the changed orientation of the distal end.

20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the graphical orientation indicator comprises a gravity indicator.
